MBB @ Troy, 1/8 5pm
Troy is 11-5. They haven’t beaten anyone of note but they average 72 points giving up 65. We average 68 giving up 62. Matchup predictor says it’s 60% in favor of Troy. I think our guys have been tested more than theirs and our defense will play well.

Troy 1.5 point favorites at home, I like our chances. We are almost fully healthy (outside of Xavion) and have played well the last two outings. Tip off in 20 mins!

Considering we went, what, like 5 minutes without a bucket... I'll take being down 1 at the break. Troy is so improved under Cross though, this definitely looks like their breakthrough season. They play suffocating defense. This second half will be a dog fight, and could be a defining moment in this season. This group has found themselves in these types of matchups before...

Re: MBB @ Troy, 1/8 5pm
Cross is a helluva basketball coach. His presence on the bench is like having seven Troy players on the court going against our five Apps. He represents a big challenge for Coach Kerns, also. That said, we can sneak away with a road win with a strong finish. Talent is dead-even. Gotta shoot well from everywhere and hit the boards. Who wants this win more? No rally whatsoever...finished with a whimper...4 turnovers and zero points last four minutes. No mas!

Poor half of basketball , very poor.A lot of bad decision making and being out hustled .Thought we took a step forward Thursday night , Saturday was definitely a step back.

This team has a habit of playing poor halves of basketball, it's the norm, nothing new.

Feels like were wasting a great season from Delph (which could be his last if he chooses to not use his covid year or transfers for grad school). He's our only threat offensively and the only consistent thing we have seen this season. Gregory is the only other guy providing some offense with any kind of efficiency. Almonacy and Forrest just aren't providing the offense they did last year, Huntley/Lewis/Eads all have had good performances but need more consistency from them. I don't know if we are just missing shots or if the offensive scheme just isn't working but something needs to change if we are going to be competitive in Sun Belt play

Re: MBB @ Troy, 1/8 5pm
Depth is a huge issue, our main guys are not producing and our bench seems to not be conference play ready if the last two games are any indications on who Coach Kerns trusts. Our offense is ranked 228th (7th in Sun Belt) according to KenPom, and defense 170th (6th in Sun Belt)
Last 2 games:
Delph 16 ppg, played 79 of 80 possible minutes
Alomonacy 8 ppg, 70/80 minutes
Lewis Jr. 11.5 ppg, 69/80 minutes
Huntley 12 ppg, 65/80 minutes
Gregory 10.5 ppg, 58/80 minutes
Forrest 2.5 ppg 45/80 minutes
Eads 7 minutes
Duhart 6 minutes
Harcum 1 minute
We are basically running a six man rotation with spot minutes for a few other guys. If/When Xavion comes back I could see him eating some of Almonacy/Forrest/Huntley's minutes. Looking at this makes me wonder why we didn't utilize the transfer portal for another rotational player if our freshmen weren't going to be ready, sophomore Glushkov I don't believe has played a meaningful minute of basketball this season, and we had the scholly available since we never replaced Lewis'. We are really feeling the loss of Kendall Lewis more so this year than last which is crazy.

When I look at the info above its seems obvious to me: Offense! I believe the defense is C+ , we have somewhat improved at the foul line = C, turnovers are better = C, rebounding is as good as we can expect with our size and until Huntley, Duhart and Glushkov strengthen and mature = B….but the offense is not good at all. I’m unsure if it’s offensive scheme or if we just can’t shoot. I think I’d like to see Huntley stay in the starting lineup and add Eads as a starter.

Re: MBB @ Troy, 1/8 5pm
There are 358 Division 1 basketball schools. We are tied for 299th in 3 point %. This team really struggles to shoot the 3. We are not much better but we do move to 202 nd on 2 point FGs. At some point Kerns will have to change up our offensive identity to match his talent.
Appalachian State, Better than your school since 1899!!!!

Given that the tournament is the prize , should we be trying to develop depth now to pay off then?
