How much are guarantee games in basketball? I really don't know, but I figure that Kentucky probably pays somewhere around $50K. If we sign one more than usual, or a two year deal, it could be enough to partially finance a buyout.

I just googled and ironically enough an article that featured Kentucky came up first. In 2010, Mississippi Valley State went to Kentucky, Butler, and Marquette. It tells in the article that Kentucky gave them $90,000. Why not schedule them and someone else, or like you said a two year deal.

As much as it might suck, I think we'd be better off in the long run to let him work out the final year, hang on to the 2013 class and if 2014 is more of the same, cut ties. That would leave us with a talented roster and hopefully the money to make a run at a coach with more experience who could bring it all together. If the ship gets turned around in the meantime then great, but I'm not holding my breath.
ASU somehow came up with the cash to lure Buzz back to Boone. Love him or hate him he was an experienced coach who got the job done. I'm not convinced we have to settle for someone with little to no experience.

The point is we can't afford to pay two coach's salaries at the same time.

That's one of the reasons we are where we are today.

That wasn't athletics money that went to Houston.

Regardless, it looks like it could have been spent on something else.
