The headline in this game is that 72 year-old CCU head coach Cliff Ellis is going for his 800th win as a collegiate head BB coach. I'm a long-time Clif Ellis fan. I hope he gets #800 very soon, just not today.

The Coastal Caroline video feed isn't too bad. Quality is fine, but the camerawork leaves a little to be desired / odd angle.

We're up by three early on, but Kinney unfortunately picked up a couple early fouls. We're hitting our shots, but need some more energy on the boards. Kinney's first foul was a charge call that could have gone either way tbh.

Did you have to pay to watch?

Yah and unfortunately it's a monthly subscription. There are a couple App away games over the next thirty days that they'll broadcast so I figure $10 for three games~ isn't too bad.

Jaylen Shaw just picked up his second foul which should be helpful. Hinton nailed a three.

To be honest given how well Coastal shot, not a terrible score at half. They lit it up in the first ten minutes. Would have been nice to keep it in single digits which it was until those last couple plays :0

If we can force a few more turnovers in the second half and Coastal cools down, I think we can make this a close one. Tyler Johnson was putting in some good minutes, but with three fouls I'm not sure how soon we'll see him in the second.

9-2 run to open the first half. Kinney is a monster on the boards. Fingers crossed that he can stay out of foul trouble. Down by just four now...

Let's hope when we play the bottom half of the conference, we can pick up some wins. Otherwise, another long season. It's not like we have been blown out in each of our conference games. We have been in each game for long periods of time but this team seems to run out of steam at the most inopportune times.

I believe it is our first loss when Shabbaz scored at least 15 points.

We were never in this game. We were behind the entire game by 10 points from the get go.

A bit of an exaggeration...we were within three at 47-43...we actually led early at 11-8. Now, it is fair to say it was a typical performance where we find a stretch in the game that we disappear and the final score is often a larger margin than what existed for most of the game.

Wonder what the extent of the injury is? He seems to be a catalyst for a lot of positives on this team.

There doesn't appear to be a bottom half of the conference right now. Judging by the scores, it's pretty much anyone's game on any given night. Troy just beat UTA by 23 points.

So how and where are we consistently getting better? Some stretches we shoot ok. Just ok. We sometimes shoot free throws. Defense? Coastal is not a good team. We're 3.5 years in with Fox. His system and his players. I wish I saw CONSISTENT improvement but I don't. I look at other smaller lower D1 schools and I see better talent evaluation than I have unfortunately seen here. Because I think any of us who have met Fox like him. But sporadic wins here and there that flash hope don't equal consistent improvement. Bummer.

2.5 seasons, not 3.5 and 2 real recruiting classes. You build up with a solid foundation, we now have one.

Guys. If we're going to complain, at least make an effort to be accurate. Fox was hired on April 8, 2014. He's halfway through his third season. He's had two recruiting classes, the first one focused solely on solving our academic problems, the second one is showing great potential. We field the 339th youngest team out of 351 Division I rosters. It's going to take time and patience to turn this boat around.

I don't aim to complain or be inaccurate. I guess I counted differently. He coached the 14-15 season, 15-16 season, and we are half way thru the 16-17 season so I counted that as 3.5 since we are half way thru his third season (my math professors may not be very proud of me). And I asked what I think is a reasonable question for this forum--"Are we seeing consistent improvement?" And folks are responding. That's why we have this space (thanks moderators).

As far as time and patience? I've been a faithful supporter of the program for 42 years. In that span I've seen 2 NCAA appearances, only one in the last 25 years. I'm glad some folks think the new recruits are showing great potential. That again, was part of my question. I hope that is right. I think using a rationale that his first recruits were signed to fix academic problems doesn't hold much weight with me, and somehow implies that we couldn't find academically and athletic players, when many schools do just that every year. The jury is still out for me.

14-15 season=1 season: 15-16 season=1 season: Halfway through 16-17 season=1/2 season
1+1+1/2= 2.5 seasons
