Well, it appears that losing your entire team to the portal is likely to have a negative impact.
Kerns is a great coach, maybe he can overcome it, but it’s looking pretty ugly.
Guess we can hope for the best.

The shot selection in the first 10 minutes was Capel/Fox era bad.
Had a chance to cut the lead to single digits by half and couldn't. Had chances to cut it to a single possession late and couldn't.
That's a bad loss. The hope is that we can look back at it as a springboard.
We'll likely play better at North Texas, but they're a better team than Louisiana.

We lost a lot because players thought Kerns was leaving and left. I believe he can rebuild us and this season is just a bump in the road. I still enjoy watching them knowing that this is a rebuilding year. We have some good players and many of them are developing. I expect us to continue to improve and be pretty good by season’s end. Still think the program is heading in the right direction.

I grew up in NC and am old, hockey isn’t even a sport to me. I do like for the Canes to win. But never watch.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:27 pm“ I just can’t have any sport to watch currently. Sad days. “

Problem with Canes and Hornets is the subscription you have to pay to watch.biggie wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:31 pmI grew up in NC and am old, hockey isn’t even a sport to me. Typical Kerns team. Struggles with offense, 3 point happy, can't hit easy shots, and can't shoot free throws. It's a 5 year trend. Not to mention all the players that have flamed out.

We kinda saw it coming. Losing 9 guys and then mostly replacing with unproven Freshman probably wasnt going to immediately work.

Not all are unproven -- Kenpom has App State as the 85th ranked most experienced team in D1.
Unproven together -- yes - I would agree with that if that were/was your sentence.
Lousiana record is a myth -- they had played a super tough schedule in non conference.
The unfortunate thing for Kerns and crew is early January is full of home games with NO students. He can't be happy about that.

I'm old but Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Charlotte all had hockey teams when I was young. Tickets were cheap. rivalries were real and the action was awesome. I still watch and the Tampa Bay Lightning are an awesome franchise. The TV package is part of my base cable package. There is a premium but it's built in and I get Ray's Baseball, Lightning hockey and some Magic hoops.biggie wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 10:31 pmI grew up in NC and am old, hockey isn’t even a sport to me. Growing up in a town without a red light and an hour away from CLT or the Triad I knew nothing of the local hockey teams. Only really heard much of them after college when I moved to Winston.Apptiger wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 8:39 amI'm old but Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Charlotte all had hockey teams when I was young. Had an opportunity to build some excitement and get more locals involved in nov/December but we put together one of the worst home schedules I’ve ever seen. Did we even play a d-1 low major at home?DenverOfTheEast wrote: ↑Thu Dec 19, 2024 8:25 amNot all are unproven -- Kenpom has App State as the 85th ranked most experienced team in D1.

Maybe it was the 400 fans, a majority of them little kids that got free tickets.

Hockey is about the only sport that allows players to police themselves. Think of the “good old days” when Bob Gibson would pitch high and tight or in your ear for flipping a bat or dancing around the bases. If the old rules were in play on the hardwood no player would beat their chest and jump up and down like an idiot after a simple play if Rick Mahon, Truck Robinson, Lonnie Shelton, Jim Chones or the like were on the opposing team. You can still go after somebody in hockey. I long for the days when sports were fun. And I could get the local paper in the morning and look at the box scores all in one page.
