I've only been able to watch one game this year and that was Tennessee, so I can't really say much. But here's my perception. It seems like we have some talent but it's raw and inconsistent, not disciplined at all. In the Tennessee game they couldn't handle that soft full court press and turned the ball over again and again in the first half. I feel like this team needs to make a decision if they're going to be winners or not...winners will do whatever it takes and even when they come up short it was a valiant effort. Not a fair comparison here but look at what football did against Troy and Tennessee...it was an amazing effort and they believed they were playing to win..they believed they were winners. Sometimes you still come up short but the effort was there. May sound hokey but you've got to believe it first...it just doesn't happen.

After the last several years, can you tell me about this mediocrity? I'm in the market.

personally, that is what I saw against Tennessee and Davidson. We made huge pushed at the end of those games when we could have easily given up (although we were leading most of the way at Davidson - but they didn't have Jack Gibbs). Fox's players don't quit. They fight until the end and look like they believe they are still in it to win it. The issue I see is that our best players, other than Shabazz, are all true freshmen...they don't have enough college game experience yet. The WCU game was very frustrating to watch. Larry Hunter took the air out of the ball, slowed the game way down because he knew they couldn't run with us, nor did they have the potential offensive firepower that we had leading up to that game. Hunter is a veteran coach and his strategy worked. He completely took us out of what we do, and we were extremely cold shooting (probably partly due to WCU's game plan)

I hope you're right...like I said I've only been able to see this team play once this year so my opinion doesn't count for much (as if it ever does). Hopefully this will be their equivalent to the 2014 football Liberty loss...greatness is not determined by how one responds to good times but by how one responds to adversity. Let's see if they can pick themselves up and improve before conference play begins.

In saying mediocrity is a step up. A step I believe we will see by March, hopefully.

Don't look now but a different set of Mountaineers is up on WCU by 60 points.

Beat NCSU. Go .500 or better in sunbelt play. Plenty of time for me to grin over roundball.

appfanjj wrote:At the game. We just lost at home to a bad 2-5 team. It was pretty brutal. For those of you who say you see improvement, we took a GIANT step backwards today. Saw nothing that looked good. Very frustrating. Just an honest objective opinion. The few fans that were here did make a lot of noise and supported the team well.
Can't say that I disagree. I have been a HUGE supporter of Coach Fox and this group of guys. They are a great group of guys who need to now man up and play with some urgency and fire. They need to battle through adversity and play hard from the opening jump until the end of the game. Time to see some real improvement from this group. Coach Fox can only do so much, he doesn't play the game for them. They need to take the coaches instruction and execute on the court.... The time is now! We actually had a decent student setion and crowd...definitely wanted that win!
