Spagnolo had a great second half and eaves was shooting lights out today. I concur, it was great watching coach and the team recognize the crowd after the game. After watching Harrow and Hunter go off in the first half I wasn't sure if we had the guards to match them but Burgess played a great second half. Great day to be in Boone!

In addition to those already mentioned, I thought Lawson played an important role down the stretched with a couple of big blocks.

Let's give a shout in Jake Babic's direction, too. He played 27 minutes (4th highest on the team) and although his shots weren't falling, he played a fine floor game. He had several key assists; he made crisp and targeted passes and had several key defensive stops. He made one bad pass while putting the ball in play after a time-out; but he made up for it with two straight defensive stops inside the 4 minute mark as the game was winding down. Fox mentioned Babic's play as being a big key to the win on the post-game show.

You all sounded very loud on the radio. David commented on how great the crowd was. Coach Fox was very appreciative of the fans in the post game interview also. Great come back. Wish we could have been there.

Yesterday was one of the better atmospheres I witnessed at the HCC in quite some time. The crowd really got behind the team and you could sense that the team fed off of that support. A game like yesterday can certainly make basketball relevant to the fan base again.

It is clear this is Jim Fox's team. They play with grit, effort, and determination. Despite the lack of success of late, the team clearly is still with their coach. A result like yesterday gives us reason to be optimistic that the future is indeed bright under this staff.

We were the beneficiary of several extraordinary performances yesterday. Frank Eaves was unbelievable from behind the arc (8-14). Tommy Spagnolo was nearly perfect from the foul line (12-13). Of course, we can't expect those kinds of performances every time out. While the team shot 41% from deep, they shot only 29% inside the arc, and were outscored 36-18 in the paint. Tommy was nearly perfect but the rest of the team was only 6-11 from the line. And, for the third time in four games we allowed the opposition to shoot better than 50%. If this team is going to have any sustained success it needs to shoot better and play more consistent on defense.

Just looking at last night's results, it does appear the SBC is going to be an "on any given night" league as with the exception of ULM, the bottom rung teams beat teams in the top half of the league. It certainly means that there will be more opportunities for us going forward if we can find that consistency.

I called my son (ASU sophomore) Thursday evening and talked him into going to the game with his dear old dad. He and his roommate joined me, and they had two other friends/teammates come join us. fter yesterday's great atmosphere, and exciting finish, they will be back and hopefully more students will be there with them. We enjoyed watching the Apps go toe to toe with GA State. a quality team that is well coached, with several very good players. Harrow, the Kentucky / NC State transfer, and RJ Hunter, the coach's son, were both excellent. Hunter lit us up for 16 in the first half, but we were able to hold him scoreless in the 2nd. Frank Eaves obviously had a great day for the Mountaineers, and we certainly needed a career best from him to win this game. It will be fun to watch the program take shape over the next 2-3 seasons - the future looks bright for ASU basketball!

Also, about Babic. He guarded Hunter for most of this game and did a pretty admirable job on a very talented player. I know Hunter was in foul trouble but it seemed like he might have also been a little frustrated on offense. Babic deserves lots of credit.

97,

Bingo. Babic did all of the little things that it takes to win a game yesterday. His defense on Hunter was frustrating him and also had the length to alter his shots and force him to take looks that weren't clean.

Babic played like a true Davidson player yesterday.

Pretty soon we'll be saying those kids look like true Appalachian players.

Going to be a very inconsistent year, but we are on the right path.
