PhillyApp....you just described the Bobby Cremins us old-timers came to know and love 30 years ago. Surely there is another coach out there who has those credentials and personality to make ASU relevant in basketball again.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Nah....I remember watching these the past couple of years and just recalled them. Heck, check out this high school pep/student section:asutrnr81 wrote:Mike you have toooooo much time on your hands! but I like the idea.....any port in a storm! Make the HCC a party ere night.....scatman77 wrote:Tradition....something to make ASU basketball indentifiable....that will make the students want to be a part of the experience. Wins are the main ingredient to this requirement but things like this will help:
Or this.....
Or even this...
I don't mean copy someone else...but do something to get the campus excited!

It wasn't in the main student section, but yes, the last few Greek nights I've attended my group was heckled and told to sit down by some Brooks Brothers cover boys. Not too big of a deal, as it takes little more than approaching them to break their confidence.Rekdiver wrote:The frat guys told you to sit down in the student section? They stand the entire football game.Dont get this. I'm an old frat guy and you need every game to be Greek night. The Greeks as a group will be more responsive if a coach approaches them.Gonzo wrote:I don't know about the fraternity idea. There's already a Greek night and it's the only time I've been regularly asked to sit down and stop cheering for the Apps by our own "fans." It might be good for numbers but it kills what ever atmosphere we might have at the time.
Maybe when the App frat culture shifts.
I've been out of undergrad for a few years, but from my experience the fraternity scene was that it was never much for school spirit. Quite the opposite, actually. And I've dated a Chi O since I was a junior at App, so I was among that culture on a regular basis.
I know plenty of good people who went Greek at App, I'm just saying that generally I've never seen a group of people so apathetic to athletics or one who would actively discourage fanship in such a way.

That's the reason we have to change their mindset to be successful. At most schools, frats lead the school spirit if they don't here, no wonder no one comes to the game. Frat's are just a way to get butt's in the seat fast, but it can't stop there.Gonzo wrote: It wasn't in the main student section, but yes, the last few Greek nights I've attended my group was heckled and told to sit down by some Brooks Brothers cover boys. How many games have been sponsored by a certain graduating class for example. What's the chance we could get some older grad's that have never been back for a BBall game if it and a post game event was dedicated to a class year?
