Yea Neal and Canty. Lots of players breaking rules this year. I know the rule breaking is on the player, but coaching needs to get their team together b/c this is the third separate time this has happened this season.

OK, first let me say welcome to the MMB...and you should take that as a sincere welcome. I see you've been a member since last summer and I missed saying "welcome aboard" then. I also see that all or most of your three posts were on the subject of men's basketball. That being the case, I have to wonder if you and I have been watching the same team.

I'm one of "those" folks that Wataugaman mentioned in an earlier post. I've been hanging around Appalachian basketball since Coach Light's teams were, to borrow your words, "fighting their tails off to earn this university victories." I was also around to see Coach Cremins' teams, Coach Cantwell's teams, Coach Apke's teams, Coach Peterson's teams, Coach Fancher's teams and now Coach Capel's teams represent Appalachian both in and out of uniform and on and off the court.

Some of those teams have played better basketball than others. Some of those players have been better citizens than others. Rarely, however, have so many players played and behaved so badly as a few of the guys on Coach Capel's 2013-2014 team.

So, yes, you can accurately call me out as being negative about our current team. Why, you ask? Take a look at last night's box score. One can barely believe a team could play so badly, statistics-wise, and beat anyone. It could only happen because Appalachian was playing a weaker team. And there aren't many weaker teams in NCAA Division I than our beloved Apps. Those are hard words to put together for an old salt like me with pride for Appalachian that's pretty widely known. (That's not meant to be a boast; it's just that I've been around "almost since dirt was invented" and a lot of folks know of my deep love for my Alma Mater.) ;)

The bottom line is that last night's win was an anomaly. You take the next ten games in which an App State men's basketball team shoots 38 percent from the floor, 25 percent from the arc and 57 percent from the FT line--with two starters suspended for at the least the second time in their short careers; and I'll show you ten App State losses.

Does that upset me? Hell yes it does!

Pardon my salty language. I'm not usually so undiplomatic; but I've about had my "fill" of this disaster. I want Coach Capel to succeed beyond his wildest dreams. I want Appalachian to succeed beyond my wildest dreams. I want 100 percent of Appalachian's players to be successful in the classroom, on the court and in everyday life. As of this snapshot in time--it isn't happening for everyone. That's my problem!

I haven't missed a Men's BBall home game since 1999-2000. We are not negative on 10 or 11 of the players and 2 out of 4 coaches. It is those 5 or 6 people that have brought that spirit of negativity on the entire team and fan base.

The other thing that you may be to new to have figured out, is that we are a sarcastic and snarky bunch of SoB's (Sons of Bob - Crimmens or Light take your pick). If we can't have fun winning, we will have fun in taking shots at the season and ourselves as having got off the bandwagon to push it out of the mud hole that it is in.
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.

You must be one of those most negative "fans", don't you realize that being the nations number 319th ranked teams is supposed to be acceptable? Shame on you.
Know what you mean. Record, national ranking, APR, horrible shooting percentages, sloppy play and all those other statistics are irrelevant. The only thing that matters is the team tries hard and wants to win.

Best, most well said post in this season!

I guess this is why I asked the question last week about why am I even looking forward to going to Asheville (or something of the sort)....This team play a team that played like crap and added more crap to the pile....and still won! I saw them take a 10 point lead to 2 minutes left in the half at Davidson only to lose by 20 or so....We may want it worse than anyone closely associated with ASU Basketball at this point.
Go APPS!
