Are you sure Rufus was a walk-on? Didn't remember it that way, but I could be wrong.
Either way, that was my senior year, and it was definitely full of great moments.

I was a Freshman, so my understanding may be a little fuzzy and embellished. The story I recall was he was found by other players on the team playing pick-up games in the Quinn. After players went on and on about him Buzz had Rufus start practicing with the team and the rest is history. Not sure of the timing of a scholarship being awarded.EastHallApp wrote:Are you sure Rufus was a walk-on? Didn't remember it that way, but I could be wrong.

He was a juco transfer, I know that. Thought I remembered that Fancher recruited him.

You are correct, was a JUCO recruited by Fancher. This is the part of the story I was recalling:EastHallApp wrote:He was a juco transfer, I know that. Thought I remembered that Fancher recruited him.

I don't remember this happening, and that's a shame.appstate77 wrote:Winning the Puerto Rico shootout with Fancher, against UVa., Central Fla. and Vandy just after the football team three peated.
Also wins against Nebraska, SMU (twice), Washington State in a holiday tourney during Apke's day. Then Fancher got a good win against Arkansas in 2008 I believe.
In addition, I ll agree to the departure or Capel and before that when "He who must not be named." left.....again.

Great find, AppDawg. Thanks for sharing. Coach Fancher did a good job in summarizing the short career of Rufus Leach.AppDawg wrote:You are correct, was a JUCO recruited by Fancher. I've still got the letter Rufus's mother wrote me after his funeral. The whole thing seems like a bad dream now. A very bad dream...
