It is true and odd. Brim is from Winston and Gainey from Greensboro. Maybe a connection? Maybe his style fits Gainey's system better?BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2026 6:00 pmIf this is true, I did not see this coming
Former App State G Jacari Brim (@BrimJacari) has officially committed to NC State

From Mercer. Was an assistant coach in the NBA G-League and also at Stetson. Prior to that, was grad asst at Georgia under Crean. Played for Florida Gators as a reserve and transferred to Rutgers making All Big East as a senior. Was NY State Gatorade POY in 2006.
Mercer has a 6'9 PF currently uncommitted in the transfer portal. Conner Serven, previously played for VT, Eastern Michigan, and Illinois. Seems like he should be out of eligibility with 6 years played, but at least one of those was a redshirt. Maybe he got medical redshirts, too? Or he's incorrectly listed in the transfer portal.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
The Roster website has been partially updated, looks like 17 players, plus the new one "Love" and potentially another commit in the works? Are we going to have 18-20 players on the roster? feel like this is the biggest roster we have had, or is the website roster off and or my math off? That is a lot of bodies on a basketball team that never plays more than 9 guys. Are we going to leave some guys home on road trips if we have that many. In a status of spending money and saving money to pay players. having 5-8 extra guys on roads trips looks like that will add up to some coin? No offense to any of the players and I want them to give their all, but from a number crunching / dollar spending scenario seems like the boat is full? I know things will shake out a little more and I am not always right, just thoughts out loud.

It does seem to be more in quantity. 15 or 16 is the average and right now it is at 18. There are probably more walk-ons than previous seasons.
I thought the new limit was 15, but there could be a few labeled as “Designated Student Athletes” that do not count against the limit.

What’s the probability DK is padding the roster because attrition (in one form or another) is expected?asu2000 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2026 7:04 amThe Roster website has been partially updated, looks like 17 players, plus the new one "Love" and potentially another commit in the works? If he can get these guys to play together early on, could be a special season. Has a ton of scorers and some rebounders. If we could close out on one more big, I’d feel even better.

We gotta find a way to not be running on fumes with 6 guys by March.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2026 8:37 pmIf he can get these guys to play together early on, could be a special season. One thing is for sure DK always seems to get the most he can out of his roster. Would love to see this coming season break 20 wins and get into some sort of post season tourny...well NIT or NCAA...I'm not even sure if cit or cbi is still a thing anymore

One path to the NCAA from this conference. Have to peak at the right time.

Maybe it’s just me but in today’s world of college basketball what is the point in playing in the NIT if you’re most likely going to lose your entire roster and then start again?

Does the expansion of the NCAAT potentially give the SBC a chance for 2 teams?
Do we schedule cupcakes and try and rack up wins?
Or go more difficult to inflate the NET ranking?

Scheduling cupcakes will not get any non-power conference team into the tournament as an at large. Goes for every sport.

Schedule as many lower level P4's we can if it's doable.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2026 12:56 pmScheduling cupcakes will not get any non-power conference team into the tournament as an at large. Goes for every sport.
(Probably not doable as no one wants to schedule us)

College Basketball is in the crapper. Free agency. Kids making a couple million a year.
Coaches leaving a month before school starts after recruiting and signing a full team (Michigan)
No rules or loyalty. Money money money.

Baseball will be the same, there isn't some moat around that sport and with the expansion of scholarships in baseball being the largest of any sport that will lend itself to a farm system at the SBC level. Getting five spots into the NCAA tournament will more likely to 2-3 in two years time.

Yes but $20M for 12 players is different than $20M for 100. Everyone on a basketball team can be making millions.
