Sun Belt up 8-3 in the challenge with 2 games remaining. No wonder Miami OH is undefeated

This is the second best team we've had in those 15 years by current winning percentage. I agree it doesn't feel like it.

That was such a weird game. If you didn’t have a scoreboard to track, it would have been hard to tell who was winning.

Well, they did beat Marshall handily on the Herd's floor. And, this go round were all played on Belt floors.

Oof what a step back today from the free throw line. 15 of 28 is flat out AWFUL. That game should’ve been tagged and bagged with 5 minutes to go but the rim had a lid on it while we were at the line. Spend a few extra minutes on it Monday in practice, Dustin.

Too late. The foul shooting we see now will be about the same to the end. Not a quick fix. Well just have to keep overcoming it.

According to the gamblers on The Score app we missed those free throws at the end on purpose so that we wouldn't cover the spread. 😆

Despite the poor free throws and 3 point shooting, they played good defense, Dodd, Jennings and even Banks were driving inside often, and Moodie had meaningful minutes. I like the change up to the 4 guard rotation. It’s a great option especially when Luke and Marcus are in foul trouble or are having off games. It was messy at times, but we led for most of the game and even though close, always felt we had control.

Our magic number seems to be 65...when the threes are falling we can get above that. When they are not it seems to be our ceiling with our "D" having to earn the win.

We just need to be hot when it counts. I will be taking the points against whomever Miami-Ohio plays in the NCAA or NIT tournament. They know how to score. Hopefully they get a decent seed and have a chance to knock a p4 out.

Troy had a big win agains NET 54

Miami OH is probably legit, but when their conference went 3-10 against the Sun Belt, it’s not going to help their cause.

Interesting stat. Gives some historical perspective of App. St. men's bball or lack thereof.
Congratulations to Kerns and Company

After Capel's first season (2010-11), App didn't have a winning record until Kerns' first season (2019-20) and had four 20-loss seasons in that same span.
I’m cautious because of our history and because we win ugly. I’m working hard to enjoy. Those of us who’ve been around a while understand how really miserable APP BASKETBALL has been. I believe the only way to real postseason (ncaa, nit) is to win the conference championship. I doubt the NIT because even with the APP STATE brand , it ain’t been built on basketball. We will probably be a 16 seed and play-in game at best.(just my opinion before someone calls me stupid or accuses me of being a liar)

The entire SBC does not have any "brand" in bball. For this year and most any years, only 1 team will get a March madness bid...the tournament winner.
The only way I see an at-large bid (for a SBC team) ever is for that team to play a really difficult OOC schedule and beat several power teams during OOC play.

Maybe other sports I am missing, the only sport the SBC has "brand" on the men's side ...is baseball

NiT brand helps. NCAA i hope we are play in. But we have to win the play in game. I dont think amy sunbelt team can hang with a 1 or 2 ncaa seed.

I'm emboldened that the defense has continued to improve (EMU aside) the games against Troy & South Alabama the defense was great. The offense is actually better then last year and situationally has been solid as of late.

If the team can close out conference play strong they'll have a Top 2 seed so probably going through some path of South Alabama + Troy which isn't easy but they've already shown they can beat them. If they go 4-1 to close out the season plus wins over those two teams they might still sniff a #14 seed. I know that sounds silly but ESPN's bracketology has Troy at #13 now and a lot of the one-bid conferences are looking weak as well. Not to mention any possible upsets in those conferences that might make a higher seed even more achievable.

I actually think we played good defense yesterday. Patterson and Lawson made several well defended shots. And Habhab made some post shots that I was shocked went in. But EMU struggled to get good open shots and you could tell they were getting frustrated. They did a good job of containing our bigs and smothered Tot. The threes weren’t falling except for Banks who I think should have shot more, but it was cool to see Dodd and Jennings attack the basket. I agree about the offense being better. We had Tate and Huntley last year, but Dodd, Luke, and Marcus weren’t what they are now and the other players were terrible except for a few games here or there. On another note, has anyone noticed there is good chemistry with Banks and Moodie? They’ve had a few fast break moments that have caught me off guard the past two games. They must lead the B team in practice. I’d like to see them subbed as a package going forward.
