Woah woah woah! Their student section is empty (still on break I presume) but the paying customers sections are full…is that legal? That never happens in Boone.

Tough game. Lose by 4 (before garbage time fouling) and miss 14 free throws.

No quit. Not going to win a lot shooting 55 percent from the foul line.

Didn’t expect to win, glad they were competitive. Was hoping to win 2 of 3 starting with this game, so hopefully get next two

Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
Kind of hard to believe we were ever in this game. They go 12-24 from 3. Score 10-12 easy buckets on lobs and we miss 14 free throws.
Like how we didn’t fold up when we got down big.

Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
They did not play great in the first half but really turned it around in the second. Really played better D and started rebounding and owning the paint area. Had good opportunity when down 3 with just under a minute but had a couple bad possessions/shots right after some authoritative dunks by Wilson. Showed potential.

When should we expect Kerns to improve the team’s free throw shooting? Maybe year 8?

Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
Hard thing to fix. It’s a long fix, year round working on form and getting many reps while winded. And hope to get your best shooters to the line. I believe what a team shoots percentage wise in the first ten games is probably what it’s gonna shoot for the rest of the season.

Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
There are 365 D1 men’s basketball teams. We are ranked 363 in free throw percentage.
I could go on a big rant about this but will just leave it at that.

It is a trait that is clearly not prioritized in recruiting. Basketball rotations flip yearly. It could be a point of emphasis but isn’t. Haven’t figured out why yet.

Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
Probably because he's trying to assemble the best team he can each year with a full roster re-load (and very limited NIL). We don't have the luxury of looking at two power forwards and dismissing one because they are a bad FT shooter. We have to take the best talent we can get and hope we can improve it.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 03, 2026 11:20 pmIt is a trait that is clearly not prioritized in recruiting. Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
We haven’t shot well at the stripe his whole tenure, pre portal/NIL either. Think it’s more of a case that we play slow and feed the big men who are usually the worst FT shooters, thus the low percentages. They take most of the FTs.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 04, 2026 10:20 amProbably because he's trying to assemble the best team he can each year with a full roster re-load (and very limited NIL). Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
We have a good mid major program. There are a handful in the Sunbelt, Marshall being one. All have strengths and weaknesses. If our players were much better at what they can do they would be playing for money somewhere else.

Re: 1/3 - MBB at Marshall - 4pm
In 20-21 (when we won the Sun Belt Tournament) we shot 73.7% from the line as a team and our top six scorers all individually shot 72% of better from the line. We put teams away at the line in that tournament311neers wrote: ↑Sun Jan 04, 2026 10:32 amWe haven’t shot well at the stripe his whole tenure, pre portal/NIL either. In 22-23, 6 of our top 8 shot 73% of better individually, but we shot 67.6% as a team because Abson and X were sub 40% shooters. In 23-24, we were 67.8%, but only had three players above 75%. Again, Abson and X were sub 50% shooters.
Last year 65.1% and this year we have plummeted to 60.4%
We are also at 31.5% from three this year, which is a couple of percentage points below the other Kerns teams.
