I made a premature judgement after the first game so going to walk back my comment. I’d said Njock didn’t look like he was ready for significant playing time. He didn’t look like the same player against NCCU. He was confident, aggressive and made his presence known. If he continues to play like that, he could be one of our top players. Needs to bring that fire every game.

I was only able to watch about 5 minutes of this game, but App looked like a much different and better team than the one that played against Central Michigan. I hope we look back at that game as a season-opening blip.

Worth mentioning that we are better than UVA as they only beat NCCU by 19

I’m not certain that’s true but we did limit their two star players.

Go with it. Too early in the season to prove otherwise :D

They scored fewer points against us than against UVA and NC State. Defense wins championships.

Two things a Kerns led teams will do, play good team defense by early-mid season and miss free throws.

They were 68% from the line two seasons ago and 65% last season. Against NCCU, they were 72%, however, only 61% on the season. Normal teams shoot around 80%. We’re average around 30 FTA per game so far, so we’re giving up 6 points per game vs if we shot at a normal clip. In close games, 6 points matter.

Of course, we scored less than both of those schools.

They had to score more because their defense wasn’t as dominant as ours.

Have not looked at national averages..but teans are averaging 80% from the line? Seems high...when I think about power forwards and centers getting fouled which are typically not the best FT shooters...but, maybe today's game, it is higher %

Our opponents are averaging 80% against us so far this season, don’t know what the national average is…

This from a Google search is dated but helpful:

The average free throw percentage in college basketball is around 70–71% for Division I teams. While the national average for men's college basketball was 70.8% in the 2019-20 season, the average for Division I teams this century is slightly lower, at approximately 69.3%.
