We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Well, had we taken care of business we’d be in statistical tie for first place.

Looking at remaining schedules we are most likely finishing 5th.

My thoughts exactly. Don’t be surprised if JMU is the #1 seed.

They have the tie breaker over Ark St and both should win out.

You have to take advantage of games against inferior opponents. That requires consistency on both sides of the floor.

That is not the worst idea if JMU is 1 seed. We are their daddy the last two years 🤣

JMU barely escaped Coastal with a 1 point win. I think they will crap the bed once or twice before end of season. I still expect Troy and Ark St to be the top two seeds.

Georgia State seems to playing as well as anyone at this point. We aren’t far off. The tournament format may actually prevent the best team in March from getting the bid.

I figured it would be tough down there, it was a close in Boone a few weeks back. We are not exactly beating teams easily - hopefully the team sickness will not hurt our seeding to bad, the team has done very well this year for putting a brand new team together. We can win the tourney with our defense, hoping for a good draw and favorable matchups with upsets, etc.

Saturday Night Bad news: The guys fell to 5th place in the conference standings.

Sunday Morning Good news: The men are only 1 game out of 1st place. 4 teams tied at the top at 10-4. We can climb before the end of the regular season to get a higher tournament seed. Just need to focus on last 4 games with Marsha and The Stink. 2 home games this week!

Hold court at home , steal one on the road , puts us in pretty good shape given what we can not control.

This is my over arching issue with the style in which we play. I mentioned it last year as well and probably will as long as it’s true. We don’t often win easily the way we should. We play a slow game, which allows the opposing team to keep it close. Sometimes that closeness bites us when it shouldn’t (ODU for example).

JMU dominated the regular season last year except for our games and then won the tournament. Thats why I didn’t expect to win last year and don’t have much confidence right now. We are an inconsistent bunch. I hope we can finish the season strong heading to Pensacola. I am worried that we peaked two months early.

“Pretty spot on here. We are good enough to play bad and beat most of the conference. We are good enough to play up and beat a big time opponent. But no game has been "pretty". We haven't controlled the majority of a game in conference play that wasn't Coastal Carolina. I think that is due to our slower style and defensive play. Games will almost always be close until the final 5 minutes. It is a good thing against the good teams but it also keeps bad teams in the game.”

This is what I posted last year and I still stand by it for the most part. We have a style that can play up or down to the competition just as easy. The frustrating part is I think we can be dominant but for whatever reason, it’s not there right now. We see glimpses at times. Ohio second half, JMU, Early January, etc. We still have time to get back to that level but quickly running out of time.

We aren’t deep. When Tate goes out, the offense turns to mud. If we play more of an up tempo, we’ll be gassed for the last five minutes, like we were Saturday against Georgia State. I’m fine with our style of play and ecstatic that we have a 16-10 record with a mostly new lineup.

Noticed they are running BOGO on men's and women's remaining home games. I can't make any of them though. And Thursday might be interesting after the winter weather Wed.

I’m not advocating for a tempo change in February. I’m just giving my opinions on Kerns’ scheme as a whole. He recruited players to fit that scheme which is why we are gassed in an up tempo situation.

His scheme works for us and that is all that matters. There are just natural downsides to playing that way because it doesn’t always translate well in a win or go home situation.

My overarching belief is the floor is high but ceiling is low in a system like this. That’s not a bad thing either. We have been in title contention on almost a yearly basis now. App State basketball needed consistency in our program and Kerns is the perfect guy for that.

Although they did win a Natty...see UVA. They have had some early exits from March madness as well

Agree .We have two weeks left in the season and are one game out of first place. We will play very meaningful games this week and next. A decent seed in the tournament and we are a contender.Given our history and the resources we devote , that isn't too shabby.

This has a chance to be the best offseason and season Kerns has had yet as a Mountaineer. If he finished with a top 4 seed in the regular season and makes the SBC finals he will have achieved relative to the talent available.

Kerns has done a fantastic job considering the circumstances.

Unfortunately, this team just doesn’t look good enough to win the conference tournament. I think they’re capable of beating any team in the conference on any given night, but they’re just too inconsistent.

Overall, better season than I expected. Let’s hope they can get hot soon.
