It doesn’t happen often with Kerns, but we got outcoached tonight.

Really bad loss. Top two seed is not in the cards.

Stupid basketball tonight. It sure why you have an ineffective guy on the court the entire final minutes in a close game. I’d rather have Mutilib, at least he can score. Garbage.

I'm honestly not sure top two is beneficial.

We looked a step slow on defense tonight and didn't handle their physical play well. No way that team should shoot in the 50% range against us.

As bunched as the standings are, this loss could drop us several spots.

I have to question why we played on Wednesday coming off a four game road trip. ODU was coming off a four game home stand. I don’t know if it’s set by us or the conference.

Not sure why Conners is not on the floor.
Exactly. Threadgill is not an offensive threat
He sometimes gets subbed in for Conners for defense. Not sure about tonight, though if it wasn’t a defense for offense pattern.

Terrible loss at home. We beat these sobs by 19 last week at their place. WTF?

And they had 2 guys injured and 2 foul out.

Still, we have won 6 of 8. If we win 6 of the next 8 we’ll be in good shape.

Rough last 5 minutes. ODU had the hot hand tonight. CJ and Tate will bounce back. It was nice to see Dodd fill the scoring role though. Hope he can continue that success, we’re going to need it from others to win this thing.

No room left for error. Must win the next 2 home games.

We are a much better team when we let CJ shoot 3s. He only had 1 attempt tonight. Him hitting outside opens up the inside for our other big guy and the lane for Tate.

If he hits them . He was 4-11 around the basket. 8 points to go with 10 rebounds. We need more points from him in competitive games.

Although a game of runs like every game, I thought we let them stay in the game in the first half. Should have been up 10 or 15. CJ is effective at the 3 around the top of the key. However , when playing zone, I think it is more difficult to get CJ open given we have the guards on the perimeter. . For most teams to be effective against the zone, you want to big men inside to pop up to foul line for high low play.
Just my opinion, I thought once we started penetrating, we had some opportunities, we just did not capitalize and finish around the rim. In some cases, I thought big guys went too low to make contact when they had opportunity for a half hooks (or whatever term you want to use for the shot). Once Tate was driving and the other odu guards were focusing on him, I would have liked to see one of our guards to move to spot Tate vacated...or if CJ had set the screen, then pop to top of key. I would have liked to see the other guard have moved a little more down sideline to baseline once Tate penetrated... thought that would have given a little more open look to that guard.

With that said, this one hurts as odu was already short handed and two guys in foul trouble.

The Sun Belt, like many leagues, has lots of parity - players and coaches. The only team I’ve seen that likely has more depth of talent than others is Ark St. and they’ve had a couple of losses as well. Kerns will adjust.

That’s a very precise analysis and very good. Seems simple to me - more movement( in particular without the ball) on offense. We just don’t move. No one seems to break across the lane, we do not “back screen” down low we don’t work hard to get open and hardly ever does anyone move to the open spot. Sad ,sad, sad loss!

I think teams have figured out the best approach to us and ODU displayed it last night.
It’s easy to over analyze after a big win or disappointing loss. We probably aren’t as good as we thought we were after the five game win streak or as bad as we seem over the last three games. It does make Saturday’s game really important though. As tight as the standings are,?a loss could drop us to 8th or 9th.
