After tying the game 3-3 after the 9th, Apps lose 3-8 in the 10th. With the loss App wraps up last place and is the first man out, turn out the lights, the fat lady is signing.

I think its time for Billy to go. There's been nothing but regression during his entire tenure

One coach's in game decisions worked, one didn't, guess which one...

I'm not sure we have finished other than last place since joining the Sun Belt.

We finished fifth each of the first two years in the SoCon. Went 2-2 and 1-2 in the SoCon Tournament, respectively, those years.
Today was a tipping point for me. I've thought that due to the extreme youth on our team this season, Billy should get next year due to his contract going to summer 2018, but Saturday was really bad from a managerial standpoint. It's not going to change.
Bringing in Reed Howell in the 10th after he pitched 4+ IP on Friday was insanity. Then Billy left him out there for all five runs before bringing in Holden. And that was after leaving in Luke Watts for 4.1 IP of relief, by far his longest outing of the season.
At this point, it doesn't matter what kind of talent is brought in with the managing as awful as it is.

Since moving to the Sun Belt, Men's Basketball, Baseball, and Softball have never made a conference tourney. Women's basketball is 0-2 in two appearances in their event. Each program is in a different place and I believe in Fox and Elderkin. But the outward glow remains, we have to do something about sports other than football and find a way to get them at least competitive.

-If App State wins two games versus UTA, they would need Georgia State AND UL Monroe to lose AT LEAST five of their last six games and Arkansas State to lose AT LEAST four of their last six games. 14 out of 18 total losses need to happen.
App sweeping UTA makes things way more complicated as it drags UTA into the quagmire. The magic number of losses needed can vary from 8 to 11 in that scenario depending on who loses. Also, it would massively help App in tiebreakers involving UTA and A-State.
FWIW, Arkansas State won two, Georgia State won one and ULM won one. So even if App won one of three vs UTA, it didn't matter. If App would have won two, then it would take all three (A-State, G-State & ULM) getting swept in the final weekend to make it.
If App swept UTA, here's how it would have looked. Still out of our hands, but in a better position.
7. App State 12-18
8. UTA 11-16
9. A-State 11-16
10. ULM 10-17
11. Ga State 9-18

Didn't have a snowball's chance anyway, maybe that explains BJ's comment after Saturday's game: “I haven’t worried about (the tournament). I’m worried about trying to play well tomorrow and get a good start out of Colin." Obviously just another scrimmage to him. Yeah, I'm probably being to rough on BJ. However, after four seasons, the results keep regressing season after season. Anyway, this Sun Belt season is over and it's time to concentrate on the future. BJ will probably return next season (Cobb's departing gift) and this season's youth will be experienced. Youth will no longer be an excuse. Thus, next season no doubt the talent will be there, question is, what will be done with it?

Yes, there is hope. There's some ball players on this team and pitching improved (although I haven't actually looked at stats). No scrimmages next season.

One big issue with this is how many guys will we lose out of the Fr/So classes. We've brought in classes of 13, 14, and 14 the last three years. Some rough numbers that we compiled over on the Scout site show us losing around 1/3 of each class to attrition before they reach their Jr years. Some attrition is always expected but that's pretty high and one reason we always seem to be young right now. We'll see how many of the 14 Fr we hold on to come next year. We have to start keeping players here or we'll never break out of the youth cycle.

Losing around 1/3 of each class to attrition before they reach their Jr year, from first glance, appears to reflect poor leadership.

Record when leading after:
Inning 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
W-L 5-6 8-8 10-6 11-7 9-5 10-2 8-2 9-1
After reading so many negative comments I was very surprised to see these numbers ---

We should have good ballplayers. Outside of two years at a junior college and his four on the mountain BJ has made a career out of recruiting.

I've analyzed numbers for 15 years in my career and in my licensed professional opinion you're doing it wrong. :D

Well then you need to take it up with the App State OFFICIAL scorekeeper/statistician because I copied it off the baseball website. It's not an opinion...

I've not checked the official record book. However, are you (by chance) implying that the only record that counts (at the end of the day) is the record/score after 9 or more innings?
