Jones is looking safe for next year with these wins down the stretch.

For a few minutes we were out of the cellar in the SB standings, and then ULM also won. With a win today and a few well placed loses by a few other teams and we might squeeze into the top 8 in the standings.

I believe his contract runs through next season. Thus, economic wise, he was safe for next year regardless.

This is the first year of the three year extension. He has two more seasons on his contract after this one.

Given his performance over the last four years this definitely does not sound encouraging.

Cobb made the contract extension and Beasley signed off on it as did the BOT.

Three teams--Ga St, A-State & UL-M--are tied for 8th at 9-15. Each has six to play and won't finish 'til May 20 or 21. Apps still dead last (in 11th) at 9-18 with three to play against UT-A Mavs--all at home next weekend. All we can do is play it out and wait and hope for another full week to see what happens. We'll need to win our last three and get a lot of help. Get out the tiebreaker rules, T-dog.

Tiebreaker rules for two teams is head-to-head. For three or more teams, it's winning percentage against the tied teams. After that for both, it's record against the top team, then second, third, so on. However, head-to-head and winning percentages should be where the buck stops. Most of it is bad news for App. The only tiebreaker App wins versus ULM, A- State and GSU is head-to-head versus A-State.

Here's the scenarios for if the Apps don't sweep UTA, which would mean UTA finishes higher in the standing than App. It got a lot harder with all the bottom teams winning on Sunday.

-If App State is swept by UTA, the Mountaineers are eliminated no matter what due to tiebreakers.
-If App State wins one game versus UTA, they would need Georgia State AND UL Monroe to lose ALL six remaining games and Arkansas State to lose AT LEAST five of their last six games. 17 out of 18 total losses need to happen.
-If App State wins two games versus UTA, they would need Georgia State AND UL Monroe to lose AT LEAST five of their last six games and Arkansas State to lose AT LEAST four of their last six games. 14 out of 18 total losses need to happen.

App sweeping UTA makes things way more complicated as it drags UTA into the quagmire. The magic number of losses needed can vary from 8 to 11 in that scenario depending on who loses. Also, it would massively help App in tiebreakers involving UTA and A-State.

In other words, we are likely staying home.

Our guys just need to focus on winning and getting better. If we make the tourney great, but if not we need to make sure the last 3 weeks set the tone for next year. It looks like we have some talent to build on if we can keep this group together. I'd be shocked if Billy wasn't coaching here next year.

Like you, I think Billy will be back next season unless he decides to leave on his own. That's pretty unlikely with the contract he has in his back pocket; and at this point, he has no other place to go.

On the other hand, it has been said that DGillin has great concern about the baseball program and that it's getting his very close scrutiny--(a la men's soccer in '15 and we know how that ended). Failure to make the '16 tourney will be another nail in Billy's coffin. The pressure-cooker is officially on. Failure to make some serious #Fun Belt noise in '17 could see Billy settling for a negotiated buy-out. Otherwise, he'll probably live a miserable life in The High Country.

I'm not calling for Billy's head on a silver platter; but I am among a lot of folks that believe that he's had ample time to show what he can do. It's time to put something in the trophy case besides dust, Billy-Boy!

Look on the bright side guys. We must be banking a lot of $$ by not having to travel to any post season tournaments.
