Diamond Apps take game 1 over #23 South Alabama with three runs in the bottom of the 9th to win 4-3.

It's nice to reverse the trend and get a win in the 9th. Biggest since Jones got here. MAYBE the young guys are starting to gel.

We actually are ahead on that stat 5 to 4 this season. Part of that is going down big early in many games, but the only two egregious losses were at Troy. Last year it was 3 to 17.

Bauk struck out 4 in the 9th to close out the game. A wild pitch on a strike out and an error at short got 2 runners on but we held on. Errors continue to pile up but at least they didn't cost us the game. Congrats for taking the series!

Starting pitching is coming around. Three good starts in a row by Schmid and Hampton is right there with him. Gorham wasn't replaced timely on Saturday or we would have had a chance to keep it a little closer.

This series win is the biggest shock IMO in App athletics since 9/1/07.

One win happens in baseball, two is shocking based on the results YTD.

I wouldn't go that far. Perhaps the 2012 LSU series. This team has shown some fight the last few weeks. I wasn't surprised at all.

That was a great series, but we were a top 30 team that year. I'm not saying the wins were bigger, I'm saying they were less probable.

I'm not sure you can compare this team to the baseball team that won 41 games (had three upper classmen starters) and was two innings away from a super regional.

This years team has 10 wins and got two of those this weekend vs. a top 25 opponent that was yet to loss a single conference game.

We had no idea how good that team was in 2012 until it actually happened. We obviously know this team is very young, in all the wrong places. Ten wins or not, this South Alabama team didn't look that scary. They were .500 on the road/neutral fields and 20 wins were at home. They certainly didn't look imposing in person, living off their arms, and small ball style of play. More losses are coming for USA. They didn't look the part of a 15-0 team.

That is why the USA series win was such a shock, this team is inconsistent and struggles mightily to produce runs.

Actually, I think a win creates a three way tie for the bottom. But, a win definitely puts them within reach of making the SBC tournament.
