NC St Game 2

Once again App State gives up a run without giving up a hit. The fundamentals on this team thus far this season are poor. App had bases loaded in the first and failed to score. State scores in the bottom of the first on a walk, balk, stolen base, and an error. 1-0 State after 1.

Thank goodness for Troutman's arm or it could be worse. 2-0 NCSU after 2.

We really don't do the little things well.

Poor baserunning by the Apps deprives the team of a chance to score. Does Jones stress fundamentals? This team really is a bit disappointing to date. I can handle losing considering the competition but it's how we lose.

No, Jones hates fundamentals, Does not understand the basics of Dixie Youth Baseball and is in over his freaking head! I can't believe CC made this hire, they both will be off the mountain by June.
Probably NONE of our baseball recruits were actually even all-Stars on their Little League teams. They were the kids who where left over after RCCC, Queen's, and CPCC signed their recruits!
Coaches don't play and AD's don't Coach.

Lose close games to ranked competition? It's not like it's 15-1

E-Z now, '81. App has no better, more serious, more down-to-earth nor more diplomatic fan than
hapapp. It's just frustration that many of us 60s-70s grads are feeling. We've been to a few more of these "bad movies" than you young lions and it's starts to weigh on us after 35 or more years. You're perhaps looking at yourself in a few more years.
Be patient with us; the Lord isn't finished with us yet!

I said I can take the losing, it is how we are losing. We keep shooting ourselves in the foot. I understand the level of competition is not we will face going forward. I just haven't been impressed with our fundamental play.

I didn't think Queens had a baseball team. I don't remember them having one when my daughter was there.
Do you think we have looked fundamentally sound the last two games?

I missed the error filled innings yesterday.
You are right though, very bad defense today. 5 or 6 errors is unacceptable.

Hap, they guys had about 1.5 weeks of on field practice before the first game. All but one IF is new to their position, and Billy is giving a lot of young guys playing time early. That would be tough against average competition not to mention the extremely tough start of our schedule.
The year we beat LSU and won 40+ we had a very mild winter so that team was much more prepared to start the season than what we are this year. Can't do anything about a cold snowy winter.

If you or someone you know has
$555,000 lying around to buy out Cobb's contract, which is $185,000 a year until Summer 2017, then go right ahead.

I understand the limitations we face in the early season in Boone and compound that with a very tough schedule to start the season. It is no surprise they are 0-6. I'm just concerned about how we are losing some of these games. Starting with this kind of competition will either get them ready for the season to come or put them in such a hole it will be difficult to overcome. It's not like the SoCon is a pushover league. Hopefully, the hitting will come around that can help overcome some of the fielding miscues. Currently, we are last in the SoCon in batting average. We need the sticks come alive.

We had 4 errors yesterday and only three of State's 6 runs were earned.
Historically, we have been slow starters though the last two years we did get off to better starts. As JT points out, this has been a rough winter and the team hasn't had a lot of field time. So, hopefully that will get cleaned up as we move forward.

The only error here is scheduling SEC, ACC schools out of the starting blocks. The previous coach usually caught schools traveling south to start the season rather then being the team traveling to warmer ground. The result was some wins over decent teams with some of the same weather issues we have

Absolutely the hardest aspect to get sharp in the early season is the defense - it really can't be replicated - there must be time spent on the field!!! - I haven't seen any of the games yet this year so I don't know the answer to this question? - have our opponents had turf or natural grass? - very little work outside in Boone and then that time spent on turf doesn't give the best combination for preparation ---

How much money is App paid for these games?

And your qualifications for making these astute observations are what? Saturday morning T Ball asst coach. Give me a break. Jones has forgot more about baseball than you will ever know.
