...but I just HAD to share this. Glenn and I worked together in Blowing Rock one summer while we were both in school at App. He used to let me catch for him that summer just for him to keep in shape and I couldn't help but wonder where he was now and what he had been doing. He was drafted later that calendar year and left school (to end up returning later). The last time I saw him, he was taking up tickets at an ASU football game, but we got to talk a few minutes that afternoon. Glenn had the longest fingers I ever saw. He could wrap them completely around a baseball and throw junk with the best of them but his fastball was unbelievable.. Thank goodness for Wikipedia.

Glenn Boggs "Goose" Gregson (born February 10, 1950, at Hamlet, North Carolina) is an American professional baseball coach and a former minor league baseball pitcher. He has been a Major League Baseball pitching coach for both the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox. As of 2013, he was Boston's Latin American pitching coordinator.
Gregson attended Appalachian State University. A right-handed pitcher, he stood 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) and weighed 185 pounds (84 kg). His minor league career lasted seven seasons. He debuted in 1972 with the Appleton Foxes of the Class A Midwest League, posting a 3.27 ERA in 8 appearances and registering one save. In 1973, Gregson was with Appleton (0-4, 1 Sv, 4.67, 16 H, 33 BB in 27 IP) and the Pulaski Phillies (1-4, 4.62).
He split 1974 between the Auburn Phillies (7-3, 5 Sv, 3.15) and the Spartanburg Phillies (0-2, 1 Sv, 1.97). In 1975, Goose pitched in 52 games for the Rocky Mount Phillies, leading the Carolina League. He won 9, lost 2 and saved 7 with a 2.34 ERA and 44 walks in 77 IP. He allowed only one home run.
Gregson spent his last three years as a player with the Reading Phillies. In 1976, he was 0-6 with 5 saves and a 2.69 ERA. The next year, his record was 1-2 with a 6.83 ERA. Finally, in 1978, he was 2-1 with a 6.21 ERA.
Gregson coached in the Phillies chain in 1979. From 1982-1984, he coached in the Chicago Cubs system. From 1988-1997, he coached in the minor leagues for the Dodgers before joining the major league staff in 1998 as the pitching coach. From 1999-2001, he coached for the Phillies farm teams once again. He moved to the Red Sox system in 2002 as roving minor league pitching coordinator, briefly served as interim pitching coach for the MLB Red Sox in 2003 after illness sidelined Tony Cloninger, and has been Boston's Latin American pitching coordinator since 2005. He also has worked as a pitching coach for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast Red Sox during this period.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.
Yet another pointless post......
