It seems like this infield “shift” hurts more than it helps.

You cannot have the shift on...and then pitch outside to a left handed hitters...did it twice yesterday and in this inning

Shifts are problematic for pitchers that struggle to locate pitches.

Also against a good hitting team. They’re good enough hitters to hit to wide open holes. We’ve got to stop the shift crap. Killing our already thin staff.

At least we went the full 9 innings today. Never thought we were in it but the score was respectable. Moral victory!!!!! Long losing streak continues…

We lack speed, our defense is barely adequate, it is very apparent the pitching is poor. We don’t get to balls hit down the lines ( other teams seem too) all that said, we are probably getting the best players we can. Wish they would win but looks like I’m going to have to live with .500 at best.

The key to happiness: low expectations. We don’t have the athleticism of CCU and SOMiss , anywhere in the field. I do think IF we can hold on to our best young guys they can edge us toward the top third or so of the league in a couple of seasons , of course depending on the pitching situation.

The reality of this team is they are mostly young and not great pitching. The youth appears pretty good and will be better next season . By better I mean more consistent, particularly fielding and clutch hitting. Injuries have hurt our best two or three starting pitchers. The relief guys need lots of work. We need a pretty good upgrade here. From a coaching standpoint, I really don’t like moving position players all over the field. It has made us inconsistent and produced more errors. Some of these errors have cost us games. I also think the batting order has been screwed up most of the season too…. not having the better hitters getting more at bats… really no excuse for this. I also don’t get why we aren’t more aggressive at moving runners over…ie… bunting, hit+run, stealing.. we’ve struggled scoring enough runs against the better teams. While I’m at it, I’m also not crazy about the big shifts… I know it’s a percentage play, but it has hurt us like today.

They just need to scrap the over analytical defensive shifts. Don’t see other teams doing much of it.

Southern Miss shifts their 3B to shallow right every time there's two strikes on a lefty.

I do not mind a certain amount of shift...but putting the shortstop on the other side of 2nd base is a little extreme

I don’t have a problem with placing the defense in line to defend against tendencies. My issue is that it requires more stress on pitch location. And that’s where our guys on the mound have struggles.

I’d be curious to know the reasoning for batting guys where they do in the order. Some guys aren’t lead off guys and sone guys thrive in the 7 hole.

Position players are in pretty good shape for next year - unless some get picked by a bigger school (can only see 1 or 2 at most) but the pitching staff loses their top 3 pitchers (including Steensma from what is being said) Something needs to change with S/C from the rumors. A pitching lab is all well and good to help analyze and help prevent injuries but the track record so far for pitching injuries has not been good. I don't know how they are going find that many quality arms to replace who's graduating and the yearly TP turnover on the pitching staff.

Sure up the fielding and somehow find some pitchers not throwers and they can compete for a top 6 spot for sure.

They have the quality of pitching that is capable of doing that.
