Xander to the closer role it seems or late bullpen guy. Looks like he’s transitioning nicely after a bumpy April. Those May numbers are great. Man, wish we had him this year.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Unfortunately, think we need to be in top 50 for that consideration.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 11:25 amHey I'm still very skeptical about the pitching but right now APP is 63 (RPI)
Get in the top 60 and it's time for the ALB talk. (again I did not see this at the beginning/mid point of year)
Kudos to the team
There are currently 15 conference leaders that have a pending auto-bid with RPI greater than 64. That leaves just 49 spots for remaining auto-bids + ALBs.
Not out of the realm of possibility, but we need some help and to take care of the stink.

How many teams are there in D1? If we are considered around 60ish are we a quad one team?

I want to say 300+ D1 baseball teams.Bigdaddyg1 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 8:39 amHow many teams are there in D1? If we are considered around 60ish are we a quad one team?

Sharing Coastal's RPI team sheet because they played us. This might help answer you're question better than the below.
If you play us at home: 1-25 would be Q1.
If you play us in Boone: 1-60 would be Q1.
We're currently sitting at 64th, as a Q2 team if you play us away or Q3 if you play us at home.
With a strong finish we could be a Q1/Q2 team.

Cancelled. Ugh. Just win 2 of 3 and see where it shakes out. Would love to be in the double elimination bracket for the SBC.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Aren’t we assured of that with one win? It’s wild. There is a slight chance that we could move to #2.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
You're correct, I think we're top 6 with 1 win. Was moreso talking we need 2/3 at minimum to be considered for at-large, and then a few other things probably have to happen outside of our control.
Man, I didn't think we'd be having these conversations about baseball this year. We haven't be in an "at-large" conversation in 12 years. What a solid and fun team we have!

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
For sure. If we had mid level SunBelt pitching… we’d be pretty sure an at-large pick… maybe 2nd or 3rd in conference….. that is not to diss our current staff, they collectively pitched their best weekend this past weekend. Make no mistake, it took that to win two from that ODU team. And it will take performances like that to make the semis or championship…. and it’s my guess that is what will be needed to get an at-large bid.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
We've exceeded expectations and while I'd like the ODU, Wake and Ark State tie back, I really want the JMU series back, especially because they're above us in RPI and we flopped.
Hope we get them in the tourney and throw stringers when we win!

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I think an at-large bid is pretty much out of the question. Winning 2/3 or sweeping AND making the SBC tourney title would likely put us in the conversation but just don't see it happening. Win 1 this weekend and we're in the top 6. That being said, if we win Thursday, do we "throw off" the rest of the weekend and have our arms ready for the tourney? Don't think where we land really matters as long as we're top 6.

Hope not, it’s still the stink on Sr weekend.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:50 amI think an at-large bid is pretty much out of the question. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Agree. It would take a lot of favorable bounces around the country to get in outside of winning the tournament. So we might as well go and when the whole darn thing and put the doubts to bed.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:50 amI think an at-large bid is pretty much out of the question. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I know I keep circling back to the non conference schedule (225 out of 305) but 5 out of the 6 three games series they played were again team with an RPI 208 or higher. That's a hard one for the committee to over look when evaluating teams. Baseball is not like the revenue sports where you get paid to got play bigger schools. I don't know how they overcome this with the budget they are on.

I'm not saying go lose on purpose. But if we win on Thursday, maybe don't run Chirico out for 100 pitches on Friday. Let him throw 2 or 3 innings as a bullpen day and have him ready to roll on Wednesday.ViewCrew87 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:56 amHope not, it’s still the stink on Sr weekend.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 11:50 amI think an at-large bid is pretty much out of the question. Why wouldn't you throw #33 on Wed? 5 days should be enough.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:32 pmI'm not saying go lose on purpose. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
We need a P5 series on the schedule every year. Going to S. Illinois was a wasted trip and cost the same, if not more, as playing against a regional P5 if we could have found an opening. Maybe we couldn't find a P5 to play.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:08 pmI know I keep circling back to the non conference schedule (225 out of 305) but 5 out of the 6 three games series they played were again team with an RPI 208 or higher. Double elim, might save him for game 2. I'm with you, throw your horse game 1 though.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:52 pmWhy wouldn't you throw #33 on Wed? 5 days should be enough.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:32 pmI'm not saying go lose on purpose. I know that was a late add I don't think had many options because it was in Dec.311neers wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 1:35 pmWe need a P5 series on the schedule every year. Going to S. They need a 3 game series against a regional P5 but it most likely will have to be away. I don't see them going to Boone. WV was the outlier.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
He's already throwing this week on short rest with the Th/F/S series. With the arm issues he's already battled this year, I would throw him in game 2 of the tournament and give him a full weeks rest.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:52 pmWhy wouldn't you throw #33 on Wed? 5 days should be enough.SlappyAppy72 wrote: ↑Tue May 14, 2024 12:32 pmI'm not saying go lose on purpose.
