Starting to look as though my earlier middle of the road comment was a bit off.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
They still are a mid tier SBC team. (be proud of that- big time conference for baseball) Winning mid week games is always nice but unless your looking for an at large bid for NCAA tourney - chalk these up to learning experiences and reps. This is where if you are a fringe player on the team and get an opportunity to play - you better do something with the chance.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 6:02 pmStarting to look as though my earlier middle of the road comment was a bit off.

So these mid week games are nothing more than a glorified practice, that’s a relief.

Sorry if you don't like the answer I gave. Conference games are the ones that matter.WataugaMan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 6:26 pmSo these mid week games are nothing more than a glorified practice, that’s a relief.

Nope not really. Most coaches usually use them as a low risk sandbox to give younger guys more seasoning. If you never play the young guys, you’ll never know what to expect from them when the pressure is on. You don't see that much at APP.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
At this point in the season, what should be expected from the young guys? Are they meeting the standard or expectations?

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Midweek games are important. Experts predict that our conference will send four to six teams to the NCAA playoffs. If we can play ourselves into the top six, we’re in the conversation.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Correct, for the good teams, usually they are “get me over” games and don’t burn pens. But in our circumstances, we’ve only got a couple decent arms so we’ve got to use them and we aren’t playing young guys. We don’t have many young guys to play. Would be nice to rack up some wins but it’s conference ship or bust at this point as our bad losses have blown our auto bid shot.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 6:34 pmNope not really. Before JMU I would have said we had a chance. We don’t have an at large chance anymore.

I changed it from young guys to bench guys for the conversation. They have used about all the arms they have for sure.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 6:43 pmCorrect, for the good teams, usually they are “get me over” games and don’t burn pens. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I had different expectations that a lot on here. At no point was APP an at large team. Again my opinion.
And I'm just asking - no ill intent at all. Where did everyone get these expectations from. Again no ill intent on my part.
Just wondering - they had a .500 season last year. Everything came together and it was awesome. Before that when was the last winning season. Their best pitcher left and many upperclassman as well. They had to replace major parts of this team.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I expect “ improvement “ at least on a cycle. If we peaked last season ok , it’s a rebuild but it’s a rebuild from a team that didn’t make post season. There is also the issue of the contract extension of last year , the justification of which was “ that we had turned the corner “. The JMU series was a wake up call for me to lower expectations.

I know it's coming off as negative what I'm saying sometimes and its not meant to be. (most of the time - not going to lie) I know quite a few on here and know how invested you are as am I. This is why I don't like message boards because I think conversations are some much easier to convey what we trying to get out. We all come at it our own ways and I need to be better at seeing through other peoples eyes not just mine.Stonewall wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 7:23 pmI expect “ improvement “ at least on a cycle. BTW I think there has been improvement. Let's see what's happens the next month. If they can win 2 or 3 conference Tournament games I think that's huge after all that was replaced.

Exactly. The lineup we have out there tonight is our usual lineup.311neers wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 6:43 pmCorrect, for the good teams, usually they are “get me over” games and don’t burn pens. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
We were 19-8 heading into a top 25 RPI matchup v JMU. A sweep for us there had us in a good position. We were better than .500 last year by the way. But yes, we overperformed the first 25 games due to our bats.Stonewall wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 7:23 pmI expect “ improvement “ at least on a cycle. Of course, no problem with anyone’s opinion or point of view. All good.Appmountaineers19 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2024 7:33 pmI know it's coming off as negative what I'm saying sometimes and its not meant to be.
