Blowout. Worst series loss in a couple years.
JMU is putting on a clinic on how to play the game.

Zero pitching. Zero speed. Didn’t even attempt a stolen base in 3 games.

Dead last in the Sun Belt in ERA. If we don’t score 8-10 runs a game, we are in trouble.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Correct, But it’s more like 10-12 runs/game.
We overperformed early in the year it seems. Let’s hope the bats wake up again.

That’s the good thing about Baseball. You play again tomorrow (or Tuesday). Chance to win 4 this week and turn it around. Need an update on Steesma and hopefully he’s good to go.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Rough weekend for the diamond Apps as we had plenty of chances to win one or two games but didn't capitalize. Just for some perspective though, visiting teams went a combined 4-17 in SBC action this weekend. Two of those wins were by second place USM and even one of those came in extras. These losses came from teams in various order in the standings so not just bad teams were losing. This league is #5 in the nation for a reason. Gotta bring it every single day.
When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
How many times have we hit batters with pitches and how many wild pitches has our staff thrown? Said it earlier this season that we are going to have to win games via low scoring football type games. Brutal lack of division one level pitching.

Fun fact- Our offense leads the nation in HBP with 80+. We just didn't have any clutch hitting this weekend. The arms are a given, but if the offense isnt working, we are in big trouble. Nothing new I don't think. Let's win 4 this week and get back on track!

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I’ve tried not to post so much on baseball because from my point of view this is what the program is. I don’t want this to be a slight on any of the coaches whatsoever. I think KS is the perfect fit. APP Is never going to get the necessary arms to compete consistently year in and year out. They are going to catch lightning in a bottle every couple years hopefully and it’s gonna be an awesome ride. IMO They’re going to be a mid tier team in the Sunbelt. You can have all the technology and gadgets that you want, but need pitchers and not people that can just throw 90+. Actually saw one of my old teammates from college last week and his son pitches for ETSU. He’s a coach in Virginia and we had a great discussion if you are being able to be recruited as either a pitcher or position player, position player is the way to go.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Will take time. And our pitching coach from the Majors leaving in February didn’t help…

Can’t get any worse. Although, wasn’t our ERA last year well above 7.00? Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
I feel like Coach Smith is a good coach. Pitching is an area that I am sure he is focused. Getting good pitching, in the nil era, probably means paying up...so we need an nil sponsor to step up.
Will we have some develop, sure...but, probably need transfers (several of them) year in and year out.
Hopefully 33 was not significantly injured on Saturday. Thought 33 had been best starter so far this year.

Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
NIL is a small part of the problem. I know personally 3 quality pitchers from the Charlotte area that liked APP but do not want too pitch on the mountain. I'm gonna get lash back but ALOT of coaches/players consider APP a cold/northern weather program. So many other good programs with better weather and facilities to play baseball in this area of the country D1/D2BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2024 10:49 amI feel like Coach Smith is a good coach. Re: 2024 Baseball Mega Thread
Yeah but wait...that happens less frequently than at APP and Marshall good try
That's not on top of the fact that they play the first month on the road. There's a reason.
