Great job by the freshman pitcher to get those final outs. Nobody backing him up in the bull pen. All on him. Gotta be a big confidence builder and the good guys win their first Sun Belt series of the year.

Might be what we needed to get the confidence back. Time to go on a roll!

Having mid 90's throwers on the bump is great but you have to develop them into pitchers. Like in all sports - you can't teach speed. Taking a few mph's off for better location makes a world of difference. Something that probably isn't considered is the fact the bumps at APP are turf. Unless someone else can correct me are there any dirt side mounds? If not, pitching off the god forsaken turf all fall and winter long - then to be off the mountain for the first month or so and try to pitch off a clay/soil mound is a huge adjustment. Pitchers are mental as it is and something as significant from going turf to dirt is a big deal. Then coming back between series and again back to turf. Not saying it can't be done but the adjustment is a lot. Subtle nuances make a difference.
This is true. I absolutely hated pitching off turf mounds.
When I first saw it I was confused. I had never seen it before I went to a game at APP. Go back to a dirt mound - if it gets wet put some diamond dri and saw dust on it.
Not that easy

If an artificial mound was the issue opposing teams would have equal (if not more) issues pitching from it because they’re far less familiar with pitching from it than we are.
True. I’m not saying it doesn’t equally affect both teams, but I’m saying it may hurt us in recruiting. I know if I was being recruited as a pitcher and had a scholarship offer to two relatively equal teams, I’d choose the one with the dirt mound to better prepare me for pitching at the next level. As far as I know, there aren’t any turf mounds in the majors or minors. There are a few turf fields but they all have dirt mounds.
It doesn’t make a difference. If anything turf is better because you don’t have to deal with holes at the rubber and landing area.

I disagree...but that's just me.

today was the first time i had a chance to watch us play on espn+ this season. Really like the fight in this team..10-7 after a 7-0 start sounds kinda rough but....west va is really good and so is campbell...the split with GW wont bad...and 2-0 in the conference..hard to complain...would love to finally get a winning overall record this year. Sunbelt is a tough baseball conference but we might just have the talent to make some noise this season!

Watching the pitching staff get shelled wasn't good and it looks like we might have to win our share of the 11-10 games. Just like in basketball winning the conference is all that matters. Beauty of college baseball is that you can go 30-20 and win your conference and play post season. Just win 2 out 3 every weekend.

And I'm by no means a field or mound expert but my eyes tell me that if a pitcher can dig his foot in front of the mound and get that extra leg drive he is more effective. But I don't have anything to back that up.

I will tie it back into App Baseball. Trea Turner who hit that awesome game winning HR for Team USA, was NC States starting Shortstop when App Baseball beat them in 2012! Go USA, Go Apps! But also, thank you Trea for saving the day!

Saw Trea play several times in college. Really good and great glove at college level. The best college player I saw in person has been Carlos Rodon, former pitcher for the Pack. Great lefty
