McLeansville must be in attendance. The good Mountaineers strike first with some small ball safety squeeze. 1-0 good guys.

I know its turf but tomorrows game has to be in Hickory right?
If it stops snowing we will be fine. We plowed the snow just to practice sometimes. Field drains pretty easily too. I'd assume someone is "maintaining" it and getting it ready for tomorrow. WVU wouldnt have come all this way just for one game I wouldnt think.

Down 8-1 in the 4th. This is getting to be commonplace. We seem to be trending in the wrong direction. We currently sit last in the Belt in ERA and next to last in fielding (three already today). Kind of hard to be successful given that status.

Ice cold after the 7-0 start. Something's got to turn around.

All the early season optimism has faded pretty quickly.

Too bad we can’t schedule Queens College, High Point and NCAT all season.

Several pages ago, I mentioned that I thought we would see what we got when we got to the we play Dook and Campbell. Hopefully we can be competitive in Sunbelt.

Time to start posting potential replacements, or too soon?

We travel to 7-6 Marshall next. Hopefully, we can get a decent start in Belt play.

I have to admit that I'm baffled over the performance. I know that Campbell and Duke are good teams and even Gardner Webb is pretty good, but with the guys we brought in, I'm not disappointed. Specifically, with the number and apparent quality of pitching we brought in, we just haven't seemed to deliver so far, at least not consistently. Baseball has always been an odd sport to me because it does tend to be very streaky, although this is extreme. I'm hoping this turns around SOON. I think we have the talent, so maybe things will gel and we can still make a run. Yes, I'm an optimist...but it's getting harder every game.

We are 0-4 against Quad 1, 2 & 3 teams. 8-2 against Quad 4 teams. WVA is a Quad 1 team. We travel to Marshall this weekend. They are a Quad 2 squad. We have four upcoming games to get our first non-Quad 4 win.

It is not realistic for fans to sit warm & cozy by fire pits and expect pitchers to throw good pitches with freezing cold fingers.

Let's see what happens. They are 1/3 into the season. Hopefully the throwers start developing into pitchers. Baseball is fickle - much different than most sports. We will see what kind of onions they have today.

Don't both pitching staffs have to throw in the same conditions? I've been a baseball guy for years. My two youngest sons played thru high school. In a couple of their years they had a kid (now in AA level) who regularly hit 95. Needless to say he was a guaranteed win and based on how the schedule went was able to pitch against any conference team who was close to our level. Our school went unbeaten in conference play for a couple of years. We (boys team) made it to the eastern championship round the senior year of our stud pitcher's senior year. We faced a team with not only a first round pick but a few other D1 prospects. They could catch up with 95 and we lost. I had read that the App staff has a few guys who can hit low to mid 90's. Apparently either they can't get breaking balls in for strikes or can't locate fast balls because we are getting rocked routinely. Hopefully the pitching warms up with the weather and we can take some series against conference teams or it's gonna get ugly.
