We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

A large majority of Pollard's kids were from nc. Half country boys, and half city boys. City, country... Doesn't matter. Nc is talent rich in baseball. Pollard was a magician in getting them to app.
2012 had 3 pitchers drafted. All 3 from small towns in WNC.
The right coach will get the good kids from nc back to app.
Just take a look at the last couple of years of the Dirtbags roster. Lots of in state talent going to other schools and we get very little.
Is because BJ did not recruit the state of North Carolina. He came from out West and also is affiliated with USA baseball. He attempted to recruit nationally, while overlooking many great players in our own state.
Whatever he did was terrible. Recruiting, coaching, and development. All just terrible.

From a scholar athlete perspective I agree, but that will only further widen the gap between the ACC, SEC, PAC 12, and everyone else from a competitive perspective.
How so? Maybe you're looking at it from an angle I haven't thought about.
If everyone went from 11.7 to 25. Seems like distribution of talent would stay the same to me.
Because if everybody has 25 then everybody offers a full to 25 players. If everybody has 11.7 then they have to prioritize how they divide up the scholarships. A guy who gets a scholarship offer of .35 from South Carolina might chose App because we offered .55. If we both offered full (like football or basketball) they would chose the power conference school almost every time.

Im not trying to defend the job Jones did, but you do realize we have 24 NC players, 2 each from FL and IL, and 1 each from SC, GA, MD, OH, and TX, right?

I think it is the percerception that his signing classes always seemed to be 50/50 in-state / out-of-state. Perhaps its the out-of-state guys leaving the program early. Anyway, water under the bridge. Here's to finding the right skipper and bigger and better seasons ahead!

Just because the max would go to 25 doesn't mean every school could afford doubling the number of scholarships. I don't think we could.

it would be an increase in the P5 scholarship offers thus they would take players currently on SBC team rosters leaving us with less talent to play with.

Just to clarify: Stroupe has just over 700 wins in his entire career...not 700 wins in 14 years at G-W. He is a career 65%-ish winner so I'm sure his name will be on the long list, if not the short(er) list.

If Charlie Cobb had opened up the purse strings, Pollard would still be here and we wouldn't be having this discussion.. Heard that from the horse's mouth at Stone Mountain Vineyards.

I don't think so. They'd keep the same guys they have now, and just give them more money.
Obviously to keep it fair the ncaa would have to establish some type of minimum %. Several years back they established baseball at minimum 25% (if I remember correctly). So if they upped schollys to 25, then maybe a minimum scholly of 75% would be appropriate????

It wouldn't be a one for one ratio. But if even the number is only 5 additional scholarship players per P5 program that is 300+ additional scholarship players that are now at those programs vs. mid-major programs, it would have an impact. Similar to what adding scholarships at the FBS level has done to the southeastern FCS members.

I know none of this from a personal perspective but I would have a hard time believing any young on the rise baseball coach would turn down Duke to remain at APP ---

And it might not be after this year, but I have a hard time believing that Pollard will remain at Duke much longer, either.

What Pollard did at App, it took him half the time to do at Duke. Imagine what he could do at Texas

I'm saying that if everyone could afford it, and similar rules were in effect as today, then it wouldn't change anything, expect give the players full rides.

I think you'll see pollard moving on up again within the next 3 years. How about Texas next year? Idk if he's done enough for Texas to hire him, but my gosh, he'd dominate there.

No I'm saying P5 programs don't have 25 players on scholarship (or more if splits were allowed), when they do they will get better players.

I'd say right now, p5 programs have 18-22 guys on scholly depending on the school. And same for mid majors.
I can't see the distribution changing any as long as the ncaa would change the minimum % required to offer a scholly. I guess I'm crazy.

If D2 Head Coaches is what we our looking for then we should take a look at Landon Powell from North Greenville. He is from NC, went to school at South Carolina, and caught a perfect game in the MLB! Took over a team that was 8-36 and won the school's first conference championship and led them to a Regional. Followed that up with a 35-14 campaign this year. Young guy couple years removed from pro ball already with an impressive track record as a coach.

No. No. No. He may have a good record, but I don't think he is what App needs. Sammy Esposito at South Carolina would be heads and shoulders better. Like with Sammy, I also grew up playing with and against Landon from little league through High School.
