May have gotten hosed in this one. Time to regroup and enjoy some home cooking of our own.

Home cooking for sure, no doubt! Kind of reminded me of when we used to play Weak Forest (football) in Winston.

A 4-3 loss. Good showing for how far we've come.

Re: @ Louisiana
If there is a silver lining in the way we lost today, it is the way coach Smith and his team handled an absolutely horrendous call. Had I been our coach, I would have gotten myself suspended for a month, maybe longer. Instead, coach Smith kept his cool and the Apps kept their poise. That's going to pay off somewhere down the road. Baseball has a way of evening out. But only for teams that know how to play the game the right way.

I hope we get another crack at them in the conference tournament. Nothing against them, but our boys deserve better than that.AppGrad78 wrote:If there is a silver lining in the way we lost today, it is the way coach Smith and his team handled an absolutely horrendous call. When will "It's better than what we had" no longer be good enough for App State?

And unless I totally missed it, the tying run was actually thrown out at 3rd on the Wild Pitch. I know the ball beat him there.

Re: @ Louisiana
It defiantly looked like we were screwed but hard to tell on their feed with no replay. I'm very happy that we're looking as good as the top teams in the conference!

One of the 10-worst calls you'll see on college baseball this year.

Re: @ Louisiana
I listened to the game driving back from DC. What happened in the 8th with the no-call hit by pitch? The Cajun announcer said they got away with one there.
Sounded like it was a solid hit and not a glancing blow. Did the pitch hit or guy in the helmet?
Unfortunately, 2 or 3 pitches later it was a K. Would have loved to have seen us break their reliever's rhythm and force him to pitch from the strecth with runners on.
To me, that was the turning point late in the game.

Re: @ Louisiana
Umpire said the batter didn't attempt to avoid the pitch. That appeared to be true. But you rarely see that called.
I would rather our batters make some movement, something that appears to be an attempt to get out of the way, while actually not doing it. Our batter simply froze.

Not in this case, of course, but I'd really like to see that called more as a safety issue.AppGrad78 wrote:Umpire said the batter didn't attempt to avoid the pitch. That appeared to be true. But you rarely see that called.

Re: @ Louisiana
As bad as this is, the phantom triple play in the first inning versus UNC Asheville was way worse. Umps called a third out that didn't exist. Wasn't even a play for a third out.AppGrad78 wrote:One of the 10-worst calls you'll see on college baseball this year.

Re: @ Louisiana
According to one Cajun fan, our LF admitted he trapped it. However, he provides no link to a quote.
