We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. Re: App @ Georgia
I got pretty upset watching the end of the game last night but now I have calmed a bit. There are a few things to consider:
This is our toughest stretch of the season. An 8-game road trip is difficult regardless of the opponents and the last 5 games of this trip are against teams playing very good baseball. Furman is 13-4 and in the top 10 of the RPI, Georgia is very talented, has won 6 of their last 8 and Athens is always a tough place to play.
Tonight's game is very big but if we can salvage a split and head home with a .500 road trip, we've got 4 very winnable games coming up before we head down to play Charleston. After the series with CofC, we play 7 of our next 8 at home.
Lots of inexperienced guys still finding their way. Unless we really get hot, it won't be another 40+ win season like last year but if we can keep our head above water over the next couple weeks, we will still be a factor in the SoCon.
The back-end of our conference schedule is very heavy on home games. 5 of our last 7 SoCon series will be played in Boone, just have to hang tough.

I believe Ryne had an elbow injury he is trying to recover from.asumike83 wrote:I really don't understand Ryne Frankoff. He's got almost as many walks and wild pitches as he had all of 2012. He was lights out with a 2.95 ERA last season, not sure what has happened.mtnjax wrote:outside of a few, our bullpen isn't very good it seems.

Re: App @ Georgia
You're right. Almost everyone in the bullpen is either inexperienced or young. We've missed several early season games due to weather, and have been in close games in most of the others so they haven't had much time to pitch this year. It is nice to beat teams like UGA during the week, but the weekend games are much more important. We still held an SEC offense to 2 runs through 6 2/3 innings with a bunch of guys that have barely been on the mound this year.mtnjax wrote:I hate to say it this way, but this is what happens i guess when they are giving guys the chance to pitch who haven't had much opportunity and they aren't making the best of it. we pretty much know who our weekend guys are. the mid-week series is looking like the chance to see the guys they haven't yet

Re: App @ Georgia
I thought the performances of Howard and Farmer were very encouraging, aside from the walks. The most disappointing was Frankoff because he is a veteran, although if he's coming off of an elbow injury, that certainly explains the rust.
We just have to throw strikes and make the opponent earn their runs. The defense was much better last night but when you have 8 walks and 4 wild pitches against a line-up with the talent of UGA, you're rarely going to win.
Time to shake it off and get a W tonight!

Re: App @ Georgia
Similar to last night, the boys are off to a good start. RBI single from Jaylin Davis and a monster 2-run, 2-out homer to right from Dillon Dobson. 3-0 Apps.
Man, that kid has some power. Cleared the scoreboard in right.
Of note: Leach is not in the line-up after yesterday's collision with Zumbrook. Jaylin is in the 3-hole, Dobson playing 1B.

Re: App @ Georgia
These errors are going to kill us. After a leadoff double, Wilmoth got a swinging strikeout then a hard grounder to 3rd. Head booted the grounder and allowed the batter to reach, then Troutman booted the ball in left to allow a run.
Got the next two to get out of it but UGA gets a run back on what should have been a scoreless frame. Impressive composure from Wilmoth to stop the damage. 3-1 Apps after 1.

Did their feed just change over to ESPN radio ads for you, too?AppState wrote:Thanks for the tunein heads-up.
Edit: WKLY or WCLA websites might be carrying the game, but the streams won't load through my firewall so I don't know.

Another error on an easy grounder to Calloway that would have ended the inning. 2 outs in the bottom of the 2nd.

Out of the inning unscathed. 3-1 Apps after 2. Wilmoth has done a great job. He'd be cruising right now were it not for the 3 errors made behind him on the left side.

Re: App @ Georgia
Springs was in there, although I'm not sure if it means anything about his role. UGA threw one of their weekend starters out there as well.
Not uncommon to go deep into the bullpen with two mid-week games, wouldn't be surprised to see 6-7 guys in this one.

Re: App @ Georgia
Balk by Tate and a passed ball by Zumbrook on a swinging strike plates another UGA run. 3-2 Apps.
We sure do find some creative ways to hand over runs to our opponents. Pitchers have done well overall, holding UGA to 2 hits and no earned runs.
5 walks, 3 errors, a balk and a passed ball through 5. We're trying real hard to give it to them, I'm worried they will take us up on our offer at some point like last night. Need to tighten up.

GREAT at-bat by Noah Holmes. Got down 0-2, fought back to a full count and gets an RBI single to left. 4-2 Apps, runners on the corners with 1 out.

Tiller takes a walk. Bases loaded with Zumbrook coming up, 1 out in the 6th. Huge moment in this game, we could either blow it open or give them some momentum by holding us to 1 run.
Edit: 2-run double from Zumbrook! 6-2 Apps.
