Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
10-13 overall with a tough 3 game home stretch against #20 Texas State. Would love to take 2 of 3 but that’s unlikely. Getting 1 would be big. Also need a big crowd showing against a ranked conference opponent.

Well they are a tough opponent but at least we gave them a good game. It'd be nice to win 1 of 3 against this kind of team. Can anyone in Boone speak on how the crowd is? I only see the shot on tv looking behind home plate and it looks like 15 people are there.

It was a bit chilly...anyway we were tied into the ninth then melted down.TS is physically two or three steps ahead of us so our margin for error is slim .Hind sight says we should have made a pitching change but who knows if the outcome would have been different.

Yeah, pitching will the area that need real coaching. Mid and late relievers, at our level, will have to be developed . That will have to come from coaching. We have improved in the fielding metric. It will help, I believe , to not be an entire lineup of “first pitch swingers”. It seems our batters are always behind in the count.

Currently 10-16. 3-6 Conference. Buzz saw aside, the ship needs to get turned around. Year 6 not looking good.

Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
The question is will Doug Gillin do anything about it? Will Doug try to repair two project sports at the same time? Basketball is much farther along so I could see DG focusing his time and efforts on improving the sport that’s already performing and maybe punting the decision on Kermit for one more year. I had high hopes but he’s just not getting it done.

Maybe that's the issue, is Kermit getting the support he needs?APPdiesel wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 3:03 pmThe question is will Doug Gillin do anything about it? If you assume that he is competent , capable and motivated ,I suppose the conclusion is that he doesn't have the resources required.I have no opinion to offer but I do have those questions and others about what our expectations should be.

Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
My expectation is to win more than we lose and make a regional two or three times every five years. With as many quality programs as there are in Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina there is absolutely no reason App baseball should be a sub .500 ball club.
I said it at the beginning of basketball season…it’s time we all raise our expectations and put pressure on those in charge to make the necessary decisions to win. That means writing letters, sending emails, tweeting and tagging the athletic director until change is made.

I’m all for raising expectations. However, unless we as fans fully have knowledge of all of the variables affecting results, then the actions that you speak of wreak of the “cancel culture” mentality. Programs go through an end of season evaluation and I trust those that know will make the correct decisions.APPdiesel wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 6:33 pmMy expectation is to win more than we lose and make a regional two or three times every five years. Re: 2022 Baseball Mega Thread
I don't know how we put together a good baseball team or golf team with the weather limitations. I think we should make Hickory the home for App Baseball. We clearly can't draw a crowd in Boone maybe Golf as well. At least the first half of the season in Hickory. and weeknight games late in the season. Maybe play Saturday games in Boone. Just a thought.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 7:12 pmI’m all for raising expectations.
