Why would you draft an 18 year old on projectability if you have a 24 year old that's "one of the best talents in the draft"

MLB teams now want you close to or in the bigs by 24 (I believe I heard Harold Reynolds say that tonight). An 18 year old gives them time in the system to develop and they would have to wait 3 years to draft you again. At 24.5 they could just sign a FA deal and not spend a pick. I was told it was his age that led to a lack of calls. Probaseball report had him 80th college ranked prospect for the draft.

and I'm telling you it wasn't age related but do agree the shorter draft is changing the strategy of MLB teams. Love the HR shoutout though. I saw that exact same info word for word about prospects on google.

Again I agree - he probably should have been drafted. You are right about HS draft picks. 6-7 years (24.1) is the hope IF they are a high round pick (rounds 1-20 only can find data using old draft) they rest are roster fillers and hope 1-2 somehow make a MLB roster someday. The median age for college players to make the bigs for those that make it is 26 and change (found it on the google)

Not at all he made it very clear there where other things at play and again he should have gotten a shot. We can do this all day. With all you "sources" I would have thought you'd know about the Boyd situation as well?

Don’t have any “sources” outside of the players. Didn’t speak to Boyd about his situation but did see the 247 stuff you referenced. Are you allowed to divulge why Banks wasnt drafted if it wasn’t for his age?

What are the chances Banks can land a FA deal? Would love to see him locally for a team because we all know he can play at the next level.
Something like Chirico and Hodlerbach?

All I'm gonna say is his journey to this point is one that is rarely traveled. I love your passion for APP but in a lot of cases there's more to this. Gotta remember people are able to prolong careers a lot better now. You have a lot of knowledge about this sport and I like the banter with you. I even agree with you that if he was here earlier we might not even be having this convo. BUT his journey got him to this point and he had one of the most memorable season an individual has had up there.

That's true and regardless if he got drafted or not, he should get an opportunity after the year he had. Let him prove it wasn't a one time thing. Based on what people are saying he's a even better person/locker guy than his baseball skills. That's saying a lot and I would think that's what kinda player you want representing an organization.

So that I’m not a hypocrite and admit when I am wrong there seems to be two things definitely holding up any contract at this point. The fact that he only really put up numbers for one season and the fact that it is later in his career being 24 years old those seem to be the two sticking points. Hope he gets a chance even if it’s the independent route and then getting a minor league contract. I apologize 311

No worries man! It's all good, don't have to apologize, but thank you. We're all in the same boat here, he's too good to not be playing! Hope he lands somewhere, even if it's a team like where Chirico and Holderbach ended up (is that Independent? https://florenceyalls.com/). Holdy is also 24 years old and he's playing ball still. Anything is possible, he just needs a chance.

St. Laurent made his debut last night for the Modesto Nuts A ball team.
Walked in an RBI. Run scored. 0-1.
Unfortunately, dove for a ball and tweaked his shoulder and left the game. Hope he can play a few more games before A ball season ends in a couple weeks.
