Coastal plays in an absolute crackerjack box. It’s no wonder they always lead in HR’s.

Pollard advances to the Supers. He will go to friendly confines in Charlottesville where the 2012 App Team started 2-0 in the Charlottesville Regional. Go Pollard!

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
We wouldn’t want to hire an assistant and should have never considered Jones - a guy who was accustomed to getting everything he needed/wanted handed to him during his time with larger more resourced programs. Jones didn’t care to reach out and develop relationships with former players/alumni, and he didn’t want to (or know how) to put in the work. To be successful here a coach needs to know how to optimize more limited resources (relative to peers) and do more with less. See Chris Pollard and now Kermit.Tru2ASU wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 6:26 pmBaseball is a lot trickier process to hire. No assistant from a successful school is going to leave for a mid-level Sun Belt job. The only way I wouldn't re-sign Smith is if Paul Oneil would leave Pembroke to come back up the mountain, and that's not happening.
Another great guy (and alum) is Rusty Stroupe. I think he’s retired now but was great going back to his days at Brevard (when it was a JuCo).

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
Pitching coach Justin Aspegren's contract is not being renewed and we are now actively searching for a new pitching coach.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
I don't know anything about the assistant coaching staff for baseball and wouldn't likely be calling for terminations regardless, but I will say that I was disappointed with the pitching performance overall this season based on the recruiting year we had. I know we had a key injury or two and that makes a big difference but just seems we under-performed at times as a unit. That said, they did seem to improve as the season went on and delivered some pretty good wins. Kind of feast or famine. Maybe the pitching coach is the puzzle piece that will help the team take that next step.
I'm glad to hear Kermit is staying. I'll feel better when I see the official announcement!

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
This is interesting given Kermit's current contract expires in 21 days. They've announced summer camps and Kermit has been on the Yosef's Club tour's recent events. Makes me wonder if this is/has been a holdup.

Big portal acquisition just hit referenced above. Confirming Kermit still here and extension is imminent, and we are working on the pitching staff.

HUGE commitment. Have known this kid for 15 years. Great family, App state legacy. Was our bat boy in 2012 for the Pollard regional run. Glad to have a great talent but better young man on the mountain.

Looks to be a reliever at State. Think he'll continue that here or transition to starter?

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
If he is anything like his dad , he is the kind of kid we want in the program .I believe he is.KS contract is a negotiation with multiple levels of approval .Process just takes time , I don't think there is anything of issue at this point other than sign offs.

Re: 2023 Baseball Mega Thread
Was a starter in high school for a prominent baseball program. I believe will shift to starter. Very hard worker, loved App out of HS, but State came calling. He’s back home to a very familiar place as his father played at App as well. Great fit all around. Starting the off-season HOT.AppStateNews wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 2:59 pmLooks to be a reliever at State. Think he'll continue that here or transition to starter?
