Pollard was not aggressive with his pitch calls and heavily biased towards breaking balls. He had the guys nibbling so much it hurt Arrowood and Grant's velocity. Several scouts said with the first thing a big league club would do with Arrowood is reverse the breaking ball to fast ball ratio. I like the way Rogers is handling and using the pitching staff. I also like the fact he hasn't hitched his wagon to one or two guys in the pen and is spreading innings out. Chris did a fine job and he is a good guy, but it was common knowlwdeg around the program once a player got in Pollard's dog house it was very hard to get out. I think you will see some of these guys who were seldom used a year ago blossom under Jones. I agree with JTApps. There is a completely different atmosphere around the team. The guys are playing loose and having more fun.Blackandgold wrote:Did you happen to see any of the pitchers throw last year? We had two of the top starters in the SoCon, in Grant and Arrowood. I'm even more excited about this coaching staff and this group of players after watching them yesterday. We're much more aggressive on the mound, and seem to have a confident but relaxed attitude. Furman now looks to be a big early season match up this weekend.
And as far as the relaxed and confident attitude. That also started last season. Those guys were a ball to watch play. Literally not intimidated by any team. Now, that confidence has rubbed off on the younger guys. And hopefully it keeps snowballing.
We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Definitely agree that pollard had 7 pitchers that logged majority of innings. By the end of the year the two or three guys out of the pen were super fatigued.Kgfish wrote:Pollard was not aggressive with his pitch calls and heavily biased towards breaking balls. As far as the looseness of the team, that started last year. Guys on the team, and pollard himself, said that he loosened the reigns, and took a huge step back due to the high number of veterans on the club. That attitude proved successful for that group of guys, and billy seems to be a players' coach and it looks to have carried over into this year
