Miami
First off I know we play ODU tomorrow and yadi yada. But I just got finished reading about 15 pages of threads on us over on the U's board because Friday. The consensus seems to be we get no credit for Tenn play and that since they have a QB that can throw (Kaaya) they will shred us for 50 points.
I agree, and the game bore out, that Dobbs could not pass. I can't say that I am not worried the Miami posters might be right that we will struggle. Watching replays of the Tenn game we were giving 8-10 yd cushion on the receivers. Do we think we will get burned? How do you think we match up? I also realize that Satts offensive calls were intentionally vanilla to manage clock and avoid turnovers, but do we think we see some different things in the Miami game?
Without a doubt our line and our linebackers showed up big time and by all appearances will continue to do so.

Re: Miami
I think their passing game is obviously a concern. Certainly much better than Tennessee's. I think we have good DBs but outside of Gray they are small. On the flipside, I don't think Miami has anywhere close to the running game that Tennessee has. We may not hold them to 13, but I think our D will keep us in the game. Question is whether our offense can move the ball consistently enough to win.

Re: Miami
I think we played soft coverage against Tennessee because they have a very strong running game and that was our primary concern. I have no doubt the game plan will be different for Miami. Hopefully we can get some pressure on the QB and take the passing game away.

Re: Miami
Kaaya is a much more accurate passer than Dobbs. He's a legit NFL prospect and if given time, he can pick a D apart. App's D will need to disguise blitzes and get consistent pressure to try and keep him in check. Richt and Searles are familiar with App and will not allow their team to sleep walk into this game. I can see the D struggling more against the U than they did against UTk.
Miami's D-line will be good. They are hurting at LB with all the suspensions and losing their starting MLB against FAMU. Their LB'ing corp will be young and with all the misdirection App runs on O, this could favor another clock controlling game plan. If Satt can force Diaz to bring the safeties up, we may finally see Lamb go over the top. We've got some FL kids who would love nothing more than to beat the Hurricanes!

Re: Miami
I agree that Kaaya is a much better passer than Dobbs. We will need to stop the run with 7 guys. I'm not too concerned with their defense. They are woefully thin up front and they start three Freshmen at Linebacker. Our OL will be able to push them around and wear them down. I don't see much difference in our game plan for Tennessee. Run, Run, Run until they can stop it.EastHallApp wrote:I think their passing game is obviously a concern. Certainly much better than Tennessee's. Re: Miami
FWIW I think Duck has the opportunity, obviously a long way off, to be a Day 1 starter in the NFL. Based on his offseason work and his first true test against Tennessee, he isn't getting the credit he deserves on this board or any where else for that matter. Everyone says Dobbs can't pass but the only real opportunity that Duck gave up was the TD play, which if he tracks the ball, is an interception. Surely Kaaya will test him but I think he would be wise to attack Williams.

Re: Miami
How much credit can you give him at this point? First game not many passes and he got burned for a touchdown. That is not a rap against him as there just isn't much to judge by. He looks like he is going to pretty good but give it a few games.ericsaid wrote:FWIW I think Duck has the opportunity, obviously a long way off, to be a Day 1 starter in the NFL. Re: Miami
I'm not sure I consider what happened as him getting burned for a touchdown. I consider it a good defensive play and a better offensive play. He was right there with the TN WR and just didn't come up with the knock down. Unfortunate how it turned out but I was extremely impressed with Duck. He's going to be a good one.bcoach wrote:How much credit can you give him at this point? First game not many passes and he got burned for a touchdown. I have no argument I just don't think there is much to judge him on yet. I didn't mean it as a knock. Just not much to go by yetYosef wrote:I'm not sure I consider what happened as him getting burned for a touchdown. I consider it a good defensive play and a better offensive play. Without a doubt you guys had a great performance versus Tenn, I don't buy the excuses made for them, you had them, minus Pat. Yes they are over rated again in my opinion, but still a top 20 team. Any true Cane fan with common sense should not overlook you, I don't. I look forward to my visit there in your electric environment.

Re: Miami
When he breaks up two passed and has several tackles, including how he performed in Fall Camp, and what I saw of the corners last year, I'd say he is already a top DB not named Gibbs.bcoach wrote:I have no argument I just don't think there is much to judge him on yet. Re: Miami
I hope that KBS and the Minuntaineer faithful live up to your expectations. I'm sure that we won't disappoint. I am interested in how your team performs tomorrow in a step up in opponents. I hope that you guys can escaoe tomorrow withou any more injuries. I live is Florida and have been to your campus. It is beautiful and the people that I have met were nice. I tried to get my daughter to go there but she doesn't want to. FWIW, she doesn't want to go to FSU or FU either. Good luck tomorrow. Re: Miami
Don't forget that UT's non-touchdown pass was a direct result of Duck getting his left arm in and knocking the ball out. I love watching that kid play!bcoach wrote:How much credit can you give him at this point? First game not many passes and he got burned for a touchdown. Appstate94- thank goodness they didn't go to FSU one worse UF - would have been traumatic - a large % of complete trash go there - haha. Am making a weekend out of our visit next week. Quick question, as I don't understand the stadium rules - I see it strongly discouraged but are bags allowed in stadium? Handbags for females included? Good luck tomorrow.
