New Recruiting Social Media Rules

As of Midnight when July becomes August, coaches now have more interaction with recruits on Twitter. They can like, retweet, favorite or heart a Tweet, Facebook post, Instagram pic, etc. They still can't respond directly to the recruit with their handle tagged or in their post's comments, but can make a separate post saying something like "Got an absolute baller from the 704 today! #W2TR" like they have been doing.

Also, coaches can't interact at all with a recruit on Twitter if they're on an official visit. The moment they leave, they can RT all their Tweets from the trip though.

So if you start seeing coaches RT'ing high school players, that's why.

Glad you posted this. Even right after reading it, I saw Sloan RT Ryan Huff's commitment tweet (from January) and thought "uh oh, that's weird, hope he's not trying to shame him after a decommit." Then I saw he was doing it for all our commits. Just wasn't expecting coaches to go back and make up for lost time like that.

Coaches at some of the power conferences RT'ed all their commit's commitment Tweets at the stroke of Midnight and other positive stuff about their school.

PJ Fleck of Western Michigan had 22 RT's in the first 14 minutes of the new rule.

This isn't an endorsement or roasting of the new rule (IMO, let's see how it goes first), just pointing out the new reality.
