ECU vs APP

The two schools are close to finalizing a four game deal. 1 game in Boone, 1 in Charlotte, 2 in Greenville. Don't like giving up a game in Boone and having 2 in Greenville but it's a start.

Any word on when these would take place?

Not yet. We both have open dates in 2021 so that would probably be the closest possibility.

I have no understanding for taking a back seat to them. A game in Charlotte will NEVER compare to a game in Boone. I like to play them but not at that cost.

I would personally be pissed off if we gave them two home games and only got one.

We got one for one with Marshall, Miami and Wake. What makes ECU so special?

One home game for two. Gillen must think ECU is a lock for the Big 12.

The problem with Charlotte IMO is attendance. Is BOA going to be anywhere near capacity for this game?

Also, I got this info from the ECU 247 VIP board. Even though their main guy is super reliable on the info he passes down, he did say he was yet to confirm on sites. I just don't see why we would need Charlotte.

My biggest problem is screwing our students. They are a major part of our gameday. Yes some would go to the Charlotte game but you give up home field I will never be supportive of that. Now if it was a three game series with one at each campus and one at Charlotte then it wouldn't be as bad but I'm still all for playing in Boone in front of our students.

I hate the idea of giving ECU more homegames than we'll get. It should be a H & H, a H & H + neutral site, or nothing. We're their peer, not their subordinate. Gillen has done a fine job so far refusing to yield and getting two ACC schools to agree to H & Hs. ECU is no ACC program.

The Miami game sort of happened due to other reasons, correct, and not normal future scheduling as this would be? I still would not like a 2-1-1 deal with ECU, but this might be a bit of apples and oranges comparing Miami and ECU scheduling. Though I also think if Wake is H-H then ECU should not get more than that either, unless they are going to pay us some huge amount for the extra home game, and I doubt they could afford that themselves.

ECU isn't going anywhere. They're in the AAC for the long haul, so let's not treat them like a P5 school. They're not. It either needs to be 1 in Boone, 1 in Greenville, and 1 in Charlotte or 2 in Boone and 2 in Greenville... none of this "ECU plays at home twice and in Boone once."

Would be a positive development for us in reality. The negatives are all about perception, i.e., whether we're on even ground with ECU.

A home game with ECU is a very good thing.

A game at BofA, while attendance would be questionable, would be a good thing for the program on balance.

And two games at ECU, while not groundbreaking, give us two driveable and appealing road games.

Whether Gillin should have held out for a better deal or walked is another question, but if we have to go 2-1-1, that's what scheduling FCS games is for.

I don't have a problem playing an extra game in Greenville, you guys are acting like we having been playing FBS football for the last 20 years, and have won alot of bowl games. Fact is, we have only been playing in the FBS for 3 years, in a stadium that only sits 24 thousand. If the roles were reversed, there would be no way App would give ECU 2 home games. We have a few more great seasons, increase our stadium capacity, them we can start demanding equal number of home games.

I disagree. Our administration has never negotiated with a "too big for our britches" philosophy a la ECU and UNCC. I don't think there's any evidence of Cobb, Beasley, or Gillen ever turning down a home and home with a peer school (FCS pre-2013, G5 post-2013) because they thought we were too big time for that arrangement.

I still stand by my original statement, but out of curiosity, I went to the ECU 247 site, to see how they feel about this; what a bunch of ass@#@$@, their running their mouths about not only having to play in Boone and Charlotte, but having to play us in general, you would think that they we're a top ten program. The funny thing is, they have been complaining for years that NC and State wouldn't travel to Greenville, and how unfair it was to them to be treated as a second hand citizen, now, their doing the exact same thing to us, what a bunch of hypocrites

It doesn't matter how many years they have been FBS. They are G5 not P5 we have a home and home with Marshall coming up... I put them right there with ECU. These games will be years out there is no telling the state of either program when we play. I like the direction of our program with a solid foundation, while ECU just fired an alum who was well loved by the fans and had won some big hometown games. So no don't treat any G5 like a P5, I would feel the same if rolls were reversed. I feel the same about Umass.
