Re: ECU or Miami?
Pretty stoked about both actually but given that Miami has already been to Boone and the outcome not in our favor...I'd pick the ECU series especially the opener in Charlotte.

Re: ECU or Miami?
I view the Miami deal as bigger in the terms of national perception. App had a historical P5 power play in Boone in year 3 of the transition from the FCS. Naysayers were saying that ACC schools would never play in Boone, and it only took three years. Playing ECU in BofA stadium is a big deal though, first G5 vs. G5 I know on played in a neutral NFL site.
For the fan base the ECU deal may be bigger as we can travel to all four and one is closer to the majority of our fan base than Boone is.

For me, its ECU. The Miami thing is cool, but this is is our backyard. I just wish we didn't have to wait 4 years. That's the world of big time football scheduling these days.................

Re: ECU or Miami?
I was a nay sayer. Outside of Wake I just did not see a P5 coming to Boone. Miami is a big deal and a recruiting tool. So that is my pick. But we recruit against ECU so getting them to Boone is also big. It shows potential recruits we are a peer.
DG has done a phenomenal job just can't say that enough.

Forget the Miami game score. It's Miami and its not close. Who cares if we lucked into it, nobody will remember that down the line.

Yeah I get that in terms of national relevance and all that. But just in terms of just simply who our fan base is looking forward to playing the most, you don't think it's even close? Figured with the past ties to ECU, fans of all ages would be excited for this game/series.

Re: ECU or Miami?
As for "exciting", it's not even close- Former national champion, name recognition, P5 vs in-state, little name recognition, G5 peer.
As for "interesting" ECU offers us a real chance to see how we stand in the state and G5. Hats off to them for coming to KBS.

As a program I think having Miami come to Boone was/is a bigger deal. However, from a fan prospective I really like regional rivalries so I personally am more excited about ECU.

Re: ECU or Miami?
Miami is a bigger deal simply because we had a 5x National Champion program come to play in Boone in year 3 of FBS. That game legitimized our program and set a new bar for us when it comes to scheduling. It also answered a lot of questions about whether or not the school/fans can support the program in larger numbers, and if the town can handle a crowd that large.
The ECU deal will help us in a lot of those same areas, but not to the extent of the Miami game.

Wrong! GS fans will constantly remind App fans for generations to come. Not that we care but somebody will remember.bigCasu wrote:Forget the Miami game score. It's Miami and its not close. Who cares if we lucked into it, nobody will remember that down the line.
The U is a much bigger deal than directional Carolina U from an outsiders/national perspective. For our fans and the state, I'd say ECU and Wakeyleaks is better for the simple fact that most of us probably know a lot more alums from those 2 universities as opposed to Hurricane grads.

Miami, and it is not close. Any P5 series (even Wake) is a bigger deal than a series with a school in a peer conference. That being said, I am Happy that it is an in-state peer.
Also happy because we are going to open up a can on those scrubs from down east.

The eaglets are just butt hurt they can't get a P5 to play in no-see-um infested statesboro.moonshine wrote:Wrong! GS fans will constantly remind App fans for generations to come. The only G5 I can think of that meets your criteria is Army/Navy, but that's special in it's own right.Saint3333 wrote:I view the Miami deal as bigger in the terms of national perception. Re: ECU or Miami?
I agree with most of you, Miami coming to Boone (regardless of the score) was a bigger deal for the program. At this time the ECU games just don't garner the national attention. Have any of the national media outlets even given a cursory acknowledgement of the upcoming series with EZU?
Of course 4 years is an eternity in football terms. Think about how much the football landscape has changed in the pervious 4 years, both locally and nationally. App moves up from FCS, EZU has a year in which they're ranked in the top 25 at one point during the season, Oregon is one of the most dominate teams in the country, Alabama's defense is crushing . . . oh wait some things don't change. Well, you get my point. 4 years from now, both EZU and App could have completely different coaching staffs. Both programs could be struggling to get to .500 seasons and no one cares except hard core fans, or both teams could be near the top of the G5 pile and it be a nationally covered big game, with early season NY6 implications.
Right now, Miami is a bigger deal. Between now and 2021 that could change.
