Has AppFan been infected? I get a harmful site warning when I try to go there. Anybody know anything or having the same issue?

It's the server which hosts the site, not the actual site itself.

They are saying it is the server and not the site, but it is a compromised script/plugin on the site..

If you go here, http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diag ... appfan.com you can see that two pages are infected with malicious malware. I would stay away from the site until they get it fixed...

I know they are working on fixing it now -- but those kind of things are pesky and sometimes very hard to track down.

I started using SiteLock after experiencing a similar problem on my site. In my case I had to go through every single plugin disabling and reenabling to find the problem. It can be a huge pain.

I recently got notified by SiteLock that MY site was failing the security test simply for having a link to AppFan on the main page. I've had to remove that link temporarily until all that can be straightened out.

It is definitely a pain to fix.. that is one of the downsides to having open source scripts (like wordpress) running your site. If you don't keep all the plugins up to date, there is a large population of "hackers" that try to find the exploits and install malware.

I have not had it done to a wordpress site of mine, but it has happened in the past on an osCommerce (ecommerce script) I used to run at work. It really can be as tedious as going through ALL the files that run the site and finding the malicious script.

That is why I usually not err on the side of caution and just create custom sites. The thing with custom sites is, while they take much longer to make, you are the only one who knows the code base and therefore, don't have hundreds of thousands people/bots trying to kill your site.

What irritates me about AppFan is they are saying its not their site and just the server. It might have started on the server away from their site, but it is now clearly on their site as well. Instead of letting their followers know that, they are letting their followers computers become infected with the malware...

You might also want to look into CloudFlare. The free version is usually enough.. it basically looks into a huge database of IP addresses and blocks anyone from a "bad" one.. it also caches the site and stores in the cloud so it makes your site a lot faster..

Yeah thanks for that tip. I recently started using Cloudfare actually and I'd definitely recommend it as well.

It's back.

"Check it out! New digs! The red screen of fear should be gone as we have a new server and .. /fingers crossed .. a successful move from old to new. You will note our link is not AppFan, but AppFans.com – we’ll return to AppFan once we have our reputation for slingin’ malware expunged. If the red screen should appear just refresh or clear cache, sacrifice a hen, shout 2319 or something, and you should come in clear. We apologize for the silence and unpleasantness. This blog has always been a labor of love, and free time is scarce. We should have some new stuff up later."
