Just a thought

Unread post by CheckYosef94 » Thu Mar 10, 2016 12:28 pm

I saw where Clemson puts in tombstones to commemorate bowl wins and conference championship game wins. Thought it was a neat idea and wondered if App could copy that idea or come up with something similar.

To get a tombstone, the win has to be away against a ranked opponent, pretty neat tradition.

I know FSU used to take a chunk of the turf from big road wins. Of course that's a little tougher with more and more schools switching to FieldTurf.

I was at FSU last year when my nephew graduated. They have a graveyard where they bury the turf of opponents. Other than a win, not sure of the criteria to get in.

Be careful getting a chunk of turf...

Someone did that in Chattanooga in 2005 and got arrested.

I don't really want a rock garden. We already have a giant pet rock. We don't really have the room around our stadium to add such an instillation. They can pull off the tombstones because of the Death Valley nickname. There isn't really a good/feasible theme for us to use as mountaineers besides a bunch of rocks.

When GaSo replaces their grass with field turf, there will be zero SBC schools with real grass. Makes it difficult to copy the clemson or FSU traditions.

Personally, when it comes to traditions I don't like copying others. Let's create and build our own traditions that are unique to App over time.

I get the tombstone/graveyard thing, but I wonder if thinking about it in terms of banners like in basketball may help generate some ideas? What if we did have some sort of "rock garden" or stone plaque thing with painted or engraved stones set into the side of the grass hill around the big hedge "A"?

Here is a unique idea that has been eluded to on here before:

Build Yosef a cabin up by the block A on the hill. As the season passes, hang "skins" over a fire pit representing our fallen foes as though it is meat curing. Incorporate it into the pregame ceremony that Yosef hangs the skins taken from the prior week or weeks (if prior games were consecutive road games).

This provides the same concept, but is uniquely Appalachain.
