Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
If both of these turn out to be accurate, Wofford will be missing a big piece up front and possibly be without their best player. Via the Spartanburg Herald-Journal on Twitter (@TerrierTracker):
Wofford will play this week at Appalachian State without all-conference left offensive tackle Calvin Cantrell (concussion).
Wofford running back Eric Breitenstein questionable this week after questionable ankle-turning long after the whistle at Georgia Southern.
Very interesting development, to say the least. Although he is a dangerous player, I'd like for EB to suit up so we can see both teams as healthy as possible. Sounds like Cantrell is a no-go for sure.

Very interesting development for sure. I don't root for any player to be injured but it would suit me just fine if Breitenstein doesn't play. I'll take whatever breaks we can catch.
Re: Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
losing the offensive tackle is bad enough, losing Breistein, they are dead. Even if he does play, he probably wont practice much this week, and from a condition standpoint, he should be a step or two slow.

Whether or not EB plays, we still must play our gap responsibilities on defense.moehler wrote:losing the offensive tackle is bad enough, losing Breistein, they are dead. Even if he does play, he probably wont practice much this week, and from a condition standpoint, he should be a step or two slow.
Re: Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
agreed, about staying focused on our lane assignments. They are having a discussion on the FCS board, between GS and Wofford fans on whether the hit to his ankle was dirty, pretty entertaining
Re: Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
no doubt he will play, now how effective he will be, thats up for debate

Can't blame a kid for wanting to create his own legacy instead of living in the shadow of one already created... Don't think it was any fault of our coaches for not trying to bring him in, he just wanted to go somewhere else.AppRy wrote:and our coaches for not bringing him here.

Wofford offered him a scholarship and we didn't, I can't blame the man for taking the scholarship offer. I wish him well, until Wofford plays App that is.

I thought the reason was we wanted him to play S and he wanted to play RB? ---WataugaMan wrote:Wofford offered him a scholarship and we didn't, I can't blame the man for taking the scholarship offer. I wish him well, until Wofford plays App that is.

Re: Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
I'm not buying that we wouldn't love to have had him at RB the past 4 years. He did want to play RB and we didn't offer him. That's a whiff in my book. I don't buy the whole 'doesn't fit the system' either... The kid has been dominant I'm pretty sure we could have used him on all those runs up the middle.
The new legacy thing would fly if we had offered him at RB.
Either way my point was that I'd rather see him healthy and us be the better team than us win bc he was hurt (potentially) his last game against us.

I'm sorry but he is not an every down back in the spread option - sure he could have been used on occasion but not the feature back he is at Wofford - He is a FB - and he found the best place for his skills ---AppRy wrote:I'm not buying that we wouldn't love to have had him at RB the past 4 years. Re: Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
I'm sure you're right that he is not traditionally a fit in the spread. I've heard that a number of times and will readily admit I don't know enough to know what makes a player a spread option vs. triple option. But I'm not sure that I buy into that, nor the fact that we couldn't have used a All SoCon level talent in our RB stable with our struggles since KRich. Or that at this level we should be worrying about traditional logic versus getting talent and putting them in a place to succeed. AE wasn't traditionally a QB. Cadet was a QB, a WR then a RB; which I'm not sure if it is more indicative of our RB consistency issues or of our abilityI'm sorry but he is not an every down back in the spread option - sure he could have been used on occasion but not the feature back he is at Wofford - He is a FB - and he found the best place for his skills ---
to put players in a place to succeed. How many walk-ons and position changes do we have every year?
At the end of the day, we are still talking about kids and if Wofford is the best place for him for football and school I'm glad he's there. As an App fan, I'd just rather see him running all over the other team.

Re: Wofford Bit By Injuries Too
one way to associate it is the same kind of comparison of a spread option QB and one who is not - Scott Riddle and Thomas Wilson were/are really good QBs - they are setting passing records both have very good arms, are somewhat mobile and very smart but neither would have fit our spread option scheme - now, certainly, as you mention, it is possible to make a fit but not without changing offensive philosophies - when offensive recruiting is based around a particular offense then that is where some concerns can come in if we are trying to "force fit" a player --- I think we all agree that we wish he could have been wearing the black and gold of APP instead of Wofford ---

I don't know all the particulars, just what I heard from my father. In a nutshell and in the end, Eric did not want his parents to pay for his education. And, in the end, Wofford offered and we did not. That's all I know.

"Running back Eric Breitenstein, who ranks second nationally in rushing yards per game and has 995 this season, is probable for this week's game at Appalachian State because of an ankle injury suffered at Georgia Southern. … All-conference left tackle Calvin Cantrell suffered a concussion and will not play this week. … Defensive end Josh Roseborough (hip) and linebacker Mike Niam (knee), who did not make the trip to Statesboro, should be ready to go this week to Boone, N.C. … Safety Josh Holt suffered a shoulder injury. He has started five games but is listed behind Kendall Bratcher this week on the depth chart. … Running back Donovan Johnson tested his sprained toe with a few plays Saturday and should also be able to carry a heavier load, especially if Breitenstein cannot play. … Defensive end Zach Bobb (knee) is officially out for the season."

Ahh, a fellow Walking Dead fan...I told a friend of mine that at the end of the Citadel game, the App fans looked like a bunch of "walkers" leaving the stadium.RankinApp wrote:Unless EB has his leg hacked off, a la Hershel in last night's episode of The Walking Dead, the kid is going to play.
