How I know everything is going to be OK!

After spending 21 years in the Air Force and six as a Driver License Examiner I finally landed my dream job of teaching high school. (Only took me 45 years of my life to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up!)

As this is my first year of teaching, imagine my surprise when I showed up to work today with a present neatly wrapped on my desk. My first thought was that one of my students probably left me a present as a joke, and I seriously considered not opening it! I finally got up enough nerve open the present and was ecstatic with what I found:

God bless all teachers! I don't know you but I will bet you are credit to your profession. My daughter just called and told me her NC teaching Christmas bonus is going in her checking Friday. They only deducted FICA tax. Like I said 99% of teachers are grossly underpaid.

Your students obviously think a lot of you. What a great way to show it!

I think most of us that teach do not do it for the money. For me, it has been my calling for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, my parents did not have the money to send me to college so I really saw no choice but the military. I am blessed to have my Air Force retirement to supplement my income; I do not know how some teach and are able to survive. The only thing I would change with my current situation is to be coaching... We only have one son left at home (he is 15 and a sophomore in high school) and I do not want to miss any of his games because I know it will be over before I know it. As soon as he moves out, I would like to get into coaching football, basketball, or baseball.

Thank you for the kind words sir!

You're an all around great guy. You served our country, now you serve in educating the youth. We need more people like you in this country. Keep up the great work that I'm sure you're doing as a teacher, GO APPS, and give those students extra credit points.
