I don't post, but read a lot on this board. At one point I was on here a lot more on here but with the tablet issues its been a challenge. Hope that gets fixed soon.
Anyway...read this article on WSJ, and read the comment below it. I will reserve my judgment toward this person.

I too will reserve judgement towards that person as well. A lot of veteran posters here know that I was on the sidelines for the Brakefield years as a student athletic trainer. I've seen first hand the way the players and coaches react to wins and losses and bowl possibilities. We had the Tangerine Bowl in hand in 1975 if only WCU didn't cause us to stumble. So being in a FBS conference, playing better and more visible opponents, going to a bowl game.....I'm all for it. One question I'd like that person to answer: if he's so adamantly against the move and athletics, will he contribute his dollars to the general fund or with hold contributions because of the FBS move? If he with holds, a pox on him.

Simply put, there is no reason to comment on what they are putting out there since we've all heard it before. And there are a whole lot of things that will have to NOT happen for us to remain exactly where we are right now. But the one real questions is this. How many true, die hard App fans refer to us as "Appy"? Honestly I stopped reading right there. Didn't see a reason to go on after that.

True on both of your statements. That person that posted is a hater and from the sounds of it a negative person. I don't do FB so I would have commented directly toward him at WSJ.

I saw that same poster opine on a previous article, but then their employer was listed as GNC (the vitamin place) and their alma mater was listed as (wait for it) Ohio University. Now they're a vet who went to Ohio State? I don't believe a word of it, and think it's just a troll rehashing tired arguments.

No, the comments haven't been removed, I just read them. And like firemoose, I could not take them seriously when they said "Appy".

Same here. Once i read Appy I knew this person's complaints weren't worth reading. Luckily someone put a favorable response up.

Says Appy, probably says Appalayshun. Best thing for you Hickory Apps to do is to take your dog or cat somewhere else.

Yep. Probably mad that we left them with the likes of Mercer, VMI, ETSU, Sammy, etc.

The article has 2 tabs under the Satterfield heading - story and comments. Click on the "comments" tab for the responses.

I wonder if the ad blocker stops the comments. If I pull up the article on my iPhone I can see comments.

Replying to everyone's comment too. This guys must be a quality troll because he's getting under my skin when most usually don't. I think, like others, it must be because he keeps referring to App as his school but by using the Appy moniker.
My Dad used to always tell me to disregard anyone who presents opinion as cold hard fact. This guy does that in droves.
"FCS tournament provided better competition and excitement."
"Southern Conf schools are subtantially far superior" -Not too superior though. His alleged attendance at one didn't help in the spelling department. (I kid, I always hate the spell check Nazis, but he deserves it)
"Playoffs were much more meaningful and fun."
Which he coupled with contradictory and circular statements to boot:
"And on the field, the previous AD called the Sun Belt a glorified FCS conference."- an AD who then took a job in the same conference....
"BTW, did you enjoy the FCS games on ESPN and ESPN2 last week? Did you enjoy the FCS years when we were on ESPN multiple times during the playoffs?"-You know what I did enjoy that...But I've enjoyed being able to watch EVERY game this year on TV that I couldn't make it too. But in his defense I guess his whole argument is "less is more."
" I guess all that FBS bottom dwelling doesn't help academics afterall."- How does one conflate athletic prowess with a school's academic ranking? Has anyone ever suggested that an FBS move would launch App into the public ivies? Also regardless of whether we stayed FCS or not we will never be Richmond, Davidson, Georgetown, or... YALE? Is he serious?
"A lot of programs, at least the smart ones, have dropped down divisions to not play the irresponsible 'keeping up with the jone's' game in athletics"- Please name one FBS school that has dropped down a division. I make this statement without any research, but I feel confident that you cannot answer this.
So he accomplished his mission and got under my skin and the lawyer in me required that I address his absurdity. I apologize for the rant.

Enthusiastically agree. I've always been in favor of move up. My three App buddies were moaning about the change. Full of doomsday talk about attendance and the program.
All that changed with the incredible finish to the 2014 Season. Now it's who do we play next and I can't wait till next year's Miami and Tennessee game.
