Just a heads up. Extra security this Saturday.

SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS AT KIDD BREWER STADIUM
Following recent events, the Appalachian State University department of athletics will enact enhanced security measures for Saturday's game.

While the Department of Homeland Security advises that there are currently no known threats against collegiate stadiums, the university is taking additional precautions at Kidd Brewer Stadium to ensure the safety of all guests and student-athletes. There will be an increased security and law enforcement presence inside, outside and surrounding Kidd Brewer Stadium. Additional security measures are also being enacted but not publicized.

Appalachian State University strongly recommends that fans not bring bags into Kidd Brewer Stadium. Also, fans are asked to arrive earlier than normal to accommodate increased security measures. The Appalachian Athletics Center will open at noon and all other fan gates will open at 12:30 p.m..

Extra security measures that could impact guests include:

• Everyone entering the stadium will be required to open their coats and outerwear.
• Some guests may be asked to empty their pockets at the gates.
• Except for authorized personnel and those with a medical need, others entering the stadium are encouraged to leave any bags at home or in their car.
• Poles/sticks for flags or signs will be prohibited.
• Only collapsible strollers that do not interfere with other guests will be permitted.

I hope they make it known about the no bags issue and flag poles. Other than that, seems like a normal entrance into the stadium. I normally get asked to empty pockets and open my coat.

I've always thought there were too many people bringing in bags, and made a point not to bring one in myself to save time. However, now that I have a toddler, there's no way I can go into a game without taking a bag (at the very least for a diaper change, but nice to have toys/cheerios). Hoping we don't run into any trouble on Saturday as I'm not sure I would consider a bag "medically necessary" for a toddler.

I am sure the "medical necessary" option will be up to the ticket holder to state such and they will accept your judgement call. Should get inspected and then no concerns.

Poles for flags? Surprised they didn't say Touchdown Santas too....here's the deal. If there is a terrorist in Boone they will do their job in the middle of the crowd backed up by security trying to get in the stadium, or any stadium for that matter. Hate to say it but security would need to profile and search further much further out from the gate.

That bag thing is gonna SUCK! With the way the weather can change during any game, I always bring a bag with a change of clothes, poncho, gloves, knit cap and other "survival" gear. Having to carry all that stuff loose is gonna be a huge pain, not to mention impossible to keep straight and clean once in your seat.
