Thanks CBS Sports, but…..

I know it means very little, and I do appreciate the love, but…. CBS Sports ranks us #36 THIS WEEK, even after last Thursday night, and (here's the kicker) Ark. State is ranked #68?! Not sure if they saw the same game I did.

Maybe they saw that we were thin on the OL after we lost a starting Center and dominated first half outside of the turnovers?

Idk, I'm grasping at straws. Doesn't make sense to me either

We actually got 2 points in the coaches' poll this week - up one from last week. In case you need proof that whoever the coaches get to fill out their ballots for them isn't necessarily paying attention.

We dropped 2 spots and Ark. State moved up 5. We're 7-2, they're 6-3.. Did y'all expect them to jump us just because they beat us? That's not how it works. I do think they should be ranked higher, especially since they beat us, but not necessarily ahead of us. And outside of the top 10ish it's fuzzy and pointless anyway. Let's just finish strong and win whatever bowl game we play.

Why didn't Tobias Edge-Campbell come in when Chapman went down? Isn't he the two deep center?

We moved Parker Collins over to center.

Considering that they are undefeated in the conference and just beat us by double digits at our place, I don't think it would be that far-fetched if they were ranked ahead of us in any ranking. It would be like Stink ranking 30 spots ahead of us the week we beat them. As for the W-L records, it's apples and oranges comparing OOC games. I couldn't care less about Ark. State getting a raw deal on a meaningless blog site, just puzzled about the wide gap.

You guys are a bit early. For whatever reason, CBS Sports will update the records for all the teams on Sunday, but do not actually update the rankings until later Monday afternoon. I've been tracking our rankings (and those of a couple other teams my close friends and family follow) and we were ranked 36 last week prior to the Ark State game.

I expect the new 26-128 rankings to be updated sometime around lunch today . . . stay tuned we will drop further . . .

Three turnovers did not help us, on paper we are better than the Redwolves, glas that someone else knows what others here do as well

If that's true, and I have no reason to doubt you, but that's a pretty crazy way to post rankings. The page displays that the rankings were updated on 11/8 and that App had dropped 2 and Ark. State came up 5 from the previous week. It certainly doesn't suggest that the rankings are preliminary. Glad the AP doesn't do it that way.

We moved Parker Collins over to center.
Because he isn't reliable snapping the ball. Even less so than Collins was, apparently.

Which poll is this, MD95? The CBS poll or the AP?

Only thing I can figure is that they rewarded us because our SOS improved from playing the 59th team? I'm grasping...

Sorry about that, I edited my post, CBS Sports.

I'm going to say it's more that they (or is there even more than one person doing these rankings?) don't look all that closely at either the Sun Belt or anyone else outside the top 25 or so.

As I mentioned above, I've been tracking several teams through the year, and from what I've seen the top 35 or 40 seem to have a decent amount of analysis (certainly top 25 gets the most). The further down from 40 the more questionable the rankings become.

For example Georgia started at 8, had a high of 4 and low last week of 39, and sits one above App at 33 this week. This seems to make sense to me.

ECU started at 74, elevated to 53 and has now plummeted to 87, but their low was week 3 at 90 after 1-2 start with both losses to top 25 teams in UF and Navy . . .

So, our second-string center "isn't reliable snapping the ball"? WTH???

I've never heard that, that's unfortunate. He did look good blocking wise when they plugged him in at RG.

So a kid we signed as a center (did he play center in HS?) can't snap the ball? Is this more of a matter of nerves? If he can't play center but can block he needs to be moved to guard. Hopefully we won't be so shuffled up front that we can't block.

He did play guard, and pretty well. I'm guessing it's more a matter of leadership and calling the plays for the line, still learning to read the defense. Many teams list a backup center but when the starter goes down will instead move another starting lineman to center. There's a heckuva lot more to playing center than just snapping the ball to the QB at waist/chest level.
