Much better microphone placement this time. Although I see aluminum, it sounds pretty loud.

Now if they could just figure out how to point the camera at the player with the ball...

Considering ESPN refuses to zoom in closer to the action, I can see how they make this mistake. Why do our camera views appear to be so far away? Watching other games today, some of which were other Sun Belt teams they didn't seem to have an issue getting closer.

Does anyone know what I mean or am I crazy? I'm OK with either response

You're not crazy. It's all about camera placement. I'm guessing the cameras are being placed on the roof of the press box. There really aren't many other options to place sideline cameras when we're running a simple 3 camera set up.

They could never get the down and distance right either. In some cases I saw it being typed in like someone was manually doing it. It never caught up with the live action of the game.

I thought ESPN3 productions had a lot of student staff giving them experience in live production (and keeping costs of producing at a minimum) but that's why we end up with lower quality production.

I agree that it seems like all of our broadcast games are at a much higher angle than other games. We need to find a way for these cameras to be at a lower level for better TV coverage. It's hard to tell where the ball is or who is making a play from such heights.

While we're at it, getting the score right would be a nice touch.

You don't notice it in person, but we need much better lighting. The games on TV are so much dimmer than other games. Let there be light at the Rock.

The Athletics Center was built so the hard cameras would be on the 7th floor, the top floor. They're not getting moved. The far away feel has more to do with the reaction time to zooming in by the camera crew, which is not that great.

The down and distance and the score thing is ridiculous. There was a TD scored at least more than once after which I looked away briefly and thought I missed either a blocked PAT or a flat out miss because the score wasn't updated. The down and distance was also confusing as it would not change. Guess it is better than the old ASU TV thing with one camera angle and no commentator.

They also had the score as 25-17 for what seemed like a full possession.

The one complaint I have is that it lags behind real time by at least 5 minutes. If they want to have pregame commentary, they need to start the broadcast at least 15 minutes earlier.

I was texting plays from the game to my brother who was watching on ESPN3 and my texts often got him before he saw it on TV

I don't think there's much that can be done about this. But it is super annoying. I got a notification on my phone for the final about 2 minutes before the game "ended" on ESPN3.
