Maybe one day

Maybe one day a game of tonight's magnitude will warrant a game day article on ESPN.com. I understand that on the national scale it doesn't measure up with the P5's but it still resonates with a lot of folks and if for no other reason than the sheer hatred between the two programs and with the recent games being so close AND with the fact that the two programs have had so much success...not even a mention?
Maybe one day.

Maybe one day.
ESPN is the least dependable sports channel, unless you are a LeBron fan, Patriots fan, SEC fan, or a fan of any other bandwagon organizations or players. Not too upset though, because I'd much rather see conversations on this board, than some college intern at ESPN who can't even pronounce our school name correctly, write a sub par 3 paragraph article.
ESPN is cutting jobs due to rising program costs and lack of advertisement revenue. This will mean that we can sadly expect the same going forward for ESPN. Advertise and promote only those that will generate the most revenue. We will get there eventually, but wouldn't expect any change in the near future. None the less, GO APPS and kick ass tonight.

Hell, even the Charlotte Observer can't muster up a unique article. They copied and pasted in the WS Journal article. Now that is pitiful.

Welcome to the newspaper industry in 2015. If it makes you feel better, that's not unique to App - the Observer and the N&O regularly share content on the larger college and in-state pro teams too, as well as in their other departments I'm sure.

Had this game been played on Saturday, I think we would have had a chance to host College GameDay

ESPN is too enamored with the rise of the AAC at the moment to care about us at the moment. We'll get there but we have to pay our dues, wine some bowls, win come championships and just win, win win. Maybe if we're really successful, C-USA or AAC will come a'callin, but we just got to the dance, don't expect the seniors to start asking you out just yet.
As for the Observer, like EastHallApp said, that's the nature of the industry now. Most outlets just pick and pull articles from the Associated Press Newswire and insert them into their issues. Papers are hard to compete at getting news against the internet these days. But if you look at local news outlets in Winston-Salem, Savannah, as well as places like Underdog Dynasty, the game is getting a LOT of attention and love.
It is what it is, this is the biggest game to come to Boone in the last ten years and whether or not the mainstream media picks up on that fact or not isn't going to take away that the place will be hot and loud.

Their loss. What a great day to be in Boone. Leaves, charcoal, two very successful programs on the rise. Great venue, perfect time to be here. Maybe even better night for football. Go Apps.

Only thing I see on the ESPN.com NCAA football lead page is what looks like the Ellison flip into the end zone. More stuff about Temple and ECU. It is a real shame that we can't get a piece of one of those AAC teams this year. Guess we will continue to be "one of those teams you don't want to play", especially at the Rock.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. When we win the conference and go to a decent bowl game, we'll get all the pub we want and mark my word, that will happen.

If we make the AutoNation Cure Bowl in Orlando, we'll get our chance at an AAC team.

As mentioned on another thread, good write-up in CBS Sports (really good article). Also read a genuine article by a Charlotte Observer writer. Maybe we are getting some real notice. Nice

Rick Bonnell, the Hornets beat writer, did write a good article about the game for the CO and he was at the game. There were lots of media there last night that normally wouldn't be there. just what happens for Primetime games vs. normal games.
Just keep winning!

One brick at a time. We keep up good seasons... and conference dominance, we'll get more coverage....

If we want national notoriety we need only to focus on the next game. Prepare for and win it like we did Thursday. We are in what some rate as the least capable G5 conference. We have played an FBS schedule for only two years and only this year will there posssibly be an undefeated conference championship for us. The national media doesn't really care that we won b2b2b 1-AA national chamionships. The team need only plan for the next game. we do that, the rest will eventually take care of itself.
God, I hate saying this, but the athletic marketing department will be a key factor in our rise to national prominence. My strength is not in the mechanics of marketing bit they have to pull out the stops to make Appalachian State relevant. It's their job to do that and they must work every bit as hard towards that goal as do the teams towards theirs.
We can also help. I have friends across the country that aren't die hard fans of any one school. These are the friends we all have that we, maybe, get to see maybe once a year or less, fellow alumni out of the SE USA, old military buddies, whatever; folks for wjom you wouldn't get a Christmas present. I send them App t shirts, or a Tervis cup or koozie; something they will use in and around their town. I also make sure they know 1 or 2 things about our team that they can repeat when their buddies ask, "Who is AP-A-LAY-SHUN state." Firstly, I make sure they know how to say it then I make sure they have a one or two liner about the team and the stadium and school. Ok. I'm tired of typing with my thumbs!
