Scott, those 1st down dives just aren't working. Please mix it up on 1st down!
Thanks!

Averaging 33.3 points per game so far, I'd say Scott is doing fine.

Using your logic means we have no room for improvement.
If you haven't seen our dive plays on 1st down each week you haven't paid attention to Asu football.
Thumping Coastal sure helps that game average too.
I never said i wasn't glad scott is here...

By your apparent logic, we should never enjoy a win. I can live with a few first down dives every game if they help set up the big plays.

Your logic..
Coach Moore- ok boys, we won. That's all that masters. No room for improvement.Enjoy the win!
My logic.- ok men. We won a very close game and was behind a lot of the game. We need to get better yardage out of 1st down to keep us out of 2nd and 15 that we were in all day. If we can do that we have a better chance of beating GS Sammy & woffard.

It seems to me that running up the gut works about a fourth of the time. When we spread the run to the outside, it tends to work better for us. Fortunately, Steven Miller is turning into a great receiving threat, so I can't complain about him not fitting into a fullback role.

Unlike our recently departed d-azzes - SS ACTUALLY has a plan - there was a young guy next to me yesterday and he was questioning those "run up the middle calls" - I kept telling him to "pay attention" because we would make a big play off a similar look - later in the game as we watched the video board of the replay of a big gainer I would ask him - What did you see first? - He would say - "A fake to Miller up the middle" - OK then
Plus as we talked about at the end of the game - the Elon defense was gassed - if there had been 10 more minutes of football and we needed to - we would have pounded them and scored every time we had the ball - No one wants 2 and 15 but the question is - are we setting something up even though this play is not currently working? - with Satterfield I say - ABSOLUTELY !!!

Well put. My point exactly. Some people can't see past their noses.

Our offensive philosophy is predicated off of the hated "up the middle" plays. It is imperative that we at least attempt to establish this threat early and often.

MIX it up on 1st down, PERIOD!!!!! We run on 1st down about 75% of the time. Anyone that goes to the games, see this.

I'm sure the "can't see past his nose" comment was for me. I'm sure i don't know as much football as you but i do know that every play can set up other plays not just the dives up the middle on first down every series.
The greatest play calling is when it's 2nd and two or three. You can open up the entire playbook then. We got ourselves into about 6 or 7 2nd and 15 because of the dive on 1st down. So you're saying to keep it up hoping that it breaks open a play later on??
As for me, I'd mix it up some but what do i know, i can't see past my nose...

Well, there's something we agree on. Really, I'm just pulling some chains here. I don't want to see this board die out and certainly don't want to see it become just some place for fans to gripe. That's where I'm coming from.

Thank you Jesus. That's the one thing I hate on here...a little is fine, but some argue the sky is a different color blue than Carolina Blue (haha)....

1. It's not a dive.
2. It's part of a game plan.
3. I agree it's used it a bit too often.
Some of us tried to tell folks after Scott was hired back that that play would still be seen a lot. I'm not sure if it's a straight give or a read play. It should be a read play and I've been a bit disappointed with Jackson's ability to make such decisions.

That play was run all during the championship years. It was a staple in our playbook when we had KR. We now have a back capable of making that play work again.

Glad to see SS make the adjustment later when they were obviously leaving the middle open and pressing the edges.
Real concern is with the D giving up over 500yds...nearly 300 in the first half. We're going to have to outscore everyone.
