Last season, Georgia Southern topped App State 34-14 in Statesboro, Ga., on a night that has stuck with a few of the Mountaineers thanks to what they perceived as vulgar chants and things being thrown by Eagles fans.

And this by Simms:

"Our fans are a little classier than theirs. We’ll show that.”

I suspect fans from other schools within the Sun Belt have already seen/experienced what Simms is talking about. I will never do anything that would cause a visiting fan to even remotely consider Appalachian as such.

As long as we don't ram another goal post through their bus, we'll be fine.

Little classier? South Georgia? Give em a pickup, a flag and a superiority in numbers and they are awfully brave. But get one on one with one of their little punks and they aren't man enough to repeat the junk they talk. They are the only fans I've never invited to have a beer at our tailgate.

They can be rough. I've seen and heard a lot on my visits to Statesboro. Lets kill 'em with kindness off the field and let this well-oiled Black and Gold machine Satterfield is driving to flatten 'em on the KBS turf.

Georgia Southern knew what they were doing in giving those circular cardboard cutouts to their fans. One of our players had to avoid stepping on one during a kickoff. That was pathetic.

I've been to Statesboro the last four times we played there and it's always the students and some young alums who yell crap non-stop. The older alums are good people.

Part of the problem in Statesboro is that the visitors section right next to the students. That was alleviated a bit with the upper deck addition, but it's still there. I also think they should switch the team sidelines at Paulson.

I hope our fans treat all visitors well and the KBS layout will help keeping our students away from their fans. If you see a fellow App fan being a jerk this Thursday, shut em down.

Got to admire the skill of our student section, to be able to get the cutout right in front of an Appy player, while avoiding all the Eagles on the field! No, I don't think they'll be passing what were pretty much oversized frisbees any time soon. Though I did laugh when the App player broke one over his knee as he was walking off the field and was soundly boo'ed by the student section. Last year's game I was on the top row right next to the App section. Only thing I saw the whole game was started by a twentyish something App fan. He was called out by an older App fan,(Had gray hair at least, like me) who told the security officer it was the app. guy that was to blame. Thought that was a classy move by the older gentleman. Other than that, pretty much good natured ribbing every now and then. Course we did have Mr. Rent-a-cop up there till well into the fourth. After the game, heard no harsh words and got to talk to 2 parents of one of the App players. He said he had a good time except for the score, then reminded me of win streak app had had. We just laughed. I too have heard horror stories of GS fans at the Rock, especially not to use the restrooms where a strong cussing was the least you could expect. Don't know myself, have never had the chance to visit Boone, though every time we play up there we say THIS is the year we go. Something seems to always come up. But if by chance the stars align just right and I get the chance, I'll head to Boone Thursday with the wife. This rivalry is just too good to miss out on. You know that every year our game will be televised as long as we're both in the Sunbelt. The rest of the conference has to play catch-up with the two FCS teams that "were getting in over there heads"! This is a great time for both programs!
Here's hoping I get to make that first trip to Boone! (And that there's at least 2 tickets still available! Ha!)

I remember that play. IIRC, it was actually thrown in the path of our return man. No penalty called, of course.
