Not sure but are we still using the same box equipment truck since moving up. Looks like most of our new peers use a full semi. Maybe we are just expert packers but do we not take more players to away games since we moved up?

If we can fit it all in the same truck(s) why buy a new one?

My thoughts were with the added roster, coaches,etc a larger truck would be needed. I guess not.

I'm sure we will at some point, but we probably have amassed the equipment that some schools have as of yet. And it could be that some of those schools have a semi just because everyone else does and they don't want to appear to have a dinky wang to their conference mates.

I saw ULL's truck at the Austin Airport Hilton last year on the way to the Texas St game.

If in fact we were still using our little old box truck I am sure it looked like 26 feet of hell on wheels rolling out of Troy, Jonesboro and Lafayette last year.

One question I have is when we were fcs how large was the traveling squad, coaches and trainers, etc compared to what it is now we are fbs? It's not earth shattering just curious.

I know that the equipment guys drive the box truck we currently have to the games. Unless one of them has their CDL, I don't see anything changing anytime soon. Also, that be one hell of a task getting that truck close to the locker room, or it be one hell of a task lugging it from the locker room down to the truck if the truck can't get close.

Leave it the way it is, I'm sure when needed the powers that be will look into a larger truck. We are 6 days away.

I beg to differ, a bit, on that one. When you have twitter handles, websites, and numerous message board threads dedicated to equipment trucks...then obviously you have fans that do care. It's not a huge deal with me personally, stadiums are my thing, but I'll admit to having a little 18-wheeler envy during our first year in the Belt. I've even known of a ACC recruit whose Father was "sold" on his son's choice when he saw their "bada$$" equipment truck. Needless to say, he is really in to rigs, and that wasn't ultimately a major factor in his son's choice...but it certainly didn't hurt.

That having been said, it seems as if the FBS-level of play dictates we need a semi for our football staff's disposal. Be it the sheer volume of equipment, the expanded mileage, etc. it appears to be something we are going to need. Given that AD Gillin appears to have a pretty acute eye for detail (see the new graphics package), I'm betting he has looked down at that box truck from his office, on more than one occasion, and already figured out that we're going to need something bigger and better pretty soon.

I find it a tad ironic that someone named APPdiesel doesn't think we need a big hauler.

I can see both sides. If it's just about measuring our VanPatten against another's VanDyke, then let's wait until we replace the truck through routine replacement schedules. However, if it's becoming a headache (we are having to leave some things behind, or take along another support vehicle, like a cargo van, because the box truck is now too small), we should quickly move in the direction of getting a big hauler.

If I were them, I'd look into getting a CDL. It could be the difference in one day remaining employed, and looking for another job driving a box truck.

I don't know about the back/front side of the Operations center, as I've never been over there, but navigating the stadium shouldn't be a big deal for a truck driver that knows what he is doing. Drive in on the East side, go around the horseshoe, and back down under the West stands.

I'm sure you saw my first post, in which you and I are pretty much in agreement. Still, if it were me, I'd get cracking on the CDL, just in case.

As I said... If we need a bigger truck Hollar and Greene will let us use one one during the season. Secondly....have we really run out of interesting topics to discuss? A truck? A TRUCK???? Next we will be discussing Nike gold jock straps.

Ha-ha. True. Wouldn't hurt to get that CDL. Then they have a leg up on competition if they look for employment elsewhere.

I have to agree with several of you, I was pretty surprised that people seem to care about this issue, but clearly they do. I am also surprised that we carry enough stuff to need a semi, but since almost every team uses them I assume we do. This gives me a new respect for the equipment manager and his team.

It sounds like App owns their own truck, which makes changing more difficult. I believe Charlotte has a sponsorship agreement with a transportation company, so "our" truck is there for each away game, but otherwise it is rolling up and down the road like a giant billboard all week. We have used a semi from the beginning, and this allows us to change the wrap every year. I do not think our deal is unusual, so maybe your athletic dept can look into this approach.
