USA Today posted the list today of every asst coach in FBS this year, 2014-15. The figures are compared to the UNC System reports from 2013-14. Shows how much of a bump they got

http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salarie ... /assistant

And please, if my math is wrong, let me know. I haven't taken a math class in nine years. :D

Nate Woody $175,000 - was $120,000, a $55,000 increase
Dale Jones $123,000 - was $105,000,a $18,000 increase
Scot Sloan $93,250 - was $90,000, a $3,250 increase
Dwayne Ledford $93,250 - was $90,000, a $3,250 increase
Frank Ponce $93,250 - was $90,000, a $3,250 increase
Mark Ivey $69,000 - was $61,000, a $8,000 increase
Chris Foster $68,000 - was $55,000, a $13,000 increase
Justin Stepp $63,000 - was $50,000, a $13,000 increase
Bryan Brown $45,000 - was $31,000, a $14,000 increase

Overall, $823,000 - was $692,000, a $131,000 increase

Nic Cardwell isn't listed as he's a grad assistant. Last year had him at $25,000. Mike Sirignano technically isn't a football coach and isn't in last year's numbers obviously. Kareem Young made $81,000 last year as S&C Coordinator and Asst Wrestling Coach.

I'd like to see us get Ledford and Sloan up in the six figures at some point soon. T-Dogg, any word on that $5mil coaching endowment?

Hopefully we can bump those up across the board over the next few years as revenue increases. But in particular, Ledford and Ponce as co-coordinators seem awfully underpaid.

Idaho has the lowest paid staff out of those reported emphasizing the issue with their program. They have the lowest paid staff, the worst facilities, and the most travel (maybe Hawaii travels more) out of any school in FBS. Not the receipt for a successful program.

They spend FCS kind of money and have an FCS kind of facility. They would be a better fit in the Big Sky conference.

Nice to see we spend more on staff than Georgia Southern. I think we are getting a deal for our talented, hard-working staff.

the reality is we cant pay quality coaches, FCS salaries anymore, we are in the big league now we have to find the money. Glad to see Nate get a raise, but the reality is, he deserves much more, and if we don't pay him, I'm sure someone else will. Question for anyone that knows, does the Yosef Club subsidize coaches salaries. I know most schools have their fan clubs contribute to the coaching staff salaries, I just wonder if we do that.

I'm sure it's being utilized here to a small extent.

As for Satterfield's contract readjustment, there's still no word on it. The link above still has him at $225,000, his original deal.

Surprised that John Wiley only makes $150k and Elliott has certainly been well rewarded.

Not to be a jerk...but I'm guessing we could pay Sloan and Ledford a bit more if a certain hanger on from the Jerry years was moved along.

Pretty ridiculous who our 2nd highest paid assistant is...names aside, it's our "Inside Linebackers Coach". That shouldn't be the case.

Looks like the top 3 assistants are all on the defensive side. Personally, I'd like to see the OL coach be second only to the DC. However, I don't believe anybody can knock the production we've seen from Dale Jones' LBing corp. He's produced quite a few All-Conference and All-Americans during his tenure. They probably could have gotten away with giving Jones half of what he got and put the other $9,000 towards Ledford and Sloan.

He only coaches the Inside Linebackers...and has basically been twice demoted in his time at App. Was Sepcial Teams coordinator, lost that...and then was DC for a year, and lost that. Basically gets paid what he does because he's been here 19 years. Kind of wonder if he's riding it out to 20 so he can get a pension and retire.

Here we go again. Lets get rid of a coach or at the least lets degrade him. After all the position he coaches has been sooooooo weak. He is there because two different head coaches want him there. Give it a rest and enjoy the huge turnaround season.

I noticed that too. You're right, it's unusual that they appear to be getting paid based on tenure rather than title. Never heard of a position coach getting paid more than coordinators, regardless of experience.

He won't get a pension at 20 I don't think. State retirement is based on 30 unless a person's age and years of service adds up to 85...I think it is.

I'm not saying fire the guy... Just pointing out that a very specialized position coach is the 2nd highest paid assistant on our team, and our salaries would be more appropriately distributed if that wasn't the case. I actually do think he puts in one more year and retires.

Obviously has no ambition beyond being a position coach at App... And that's fine. Probably got tired of the shifting around, uprooting family, etc.

Long-term, though, assistant turnover will be less if we don't have labor costs out of whack like this...

Dale Jones and Scot Sloan got three year deals after the 2011 season when everyone else on the staff left. Asst coaches very rarely get more than one year deals.

The pension thing probably has a lot of weight to it since Jones has basically been demoted twice in the last few years.

Pot, meet kettle. Wasn't bitching - was pointing out a fact. Our Inside Linebackers Coach is our 2nd Highest Paid Assistant. In a perfect world, that shouldn't be the case. That is a misallocation of limited resources. Of course - in a perfect world, he's making that, and our other assistants are making at least that or more.

But considering he is by far our most senior Assistant, it's easy to understand why this anomaly exists...and he's also probably being paid off a contract that initially started when he was Defensive Coordinator.

What could you possibly know about a "perfect world" when it comes to App State coaches?

When JM put DJ at DC it didn't work out. Sure.

But all Dale Jones has done since he's been at App is coach outstanding LBs. He really is a great coach and we're fortunate to have him.

All of this hairsplitting and amateur commentary on a subject we know nothing about is aggravating.

"Well, Dale Jones is probably getting paid X because he was demoted to Y..." blah blah blah.

I would love for someone to go up to Coach Satt and say "Hey Coach, you know, you're paying an LBs coach a lot of money! Do you really think Dale Jones is worth that much?"

That is factually untrue:

1996-2004: Appalachian State (Defensive Line/Special Teams)
2005-09: Appalachian State (Linebackers)
2010-12: Appalachian State (Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers)
2013: Appalachian State (Defensive Line)
2014: Appalachian State (Inside Linebackers)
